My “Where’s Waldo”

My “Where’s Waldo”

Since I updated the progress of Rane I thought I bet update the progress of Colada and her babies too. My kids ran downstairs anxiously making sure we didn’t have sugar drops and failing puppies, I don’t blame them for their anxiety. Calypo’s loss will be felt for a long time! But I can proudly say that we came down to two waggly tailed, excited puppies this morning and their first night was a true success. With that out of the way, I just had to share the funny from last night. Before heading to bed I checked in on Colada and the pups to make sure they were all tucked in well for their first night. They had found their way to the doggy bed (always...

Just Fabulous!

Just Fabulous!

And I am not saying that with my typical sarcastic tone! I actually mean it! Rane and her new baby boy did fabulously for their first night alone after we moved Colada and her puppies. He was plump and happy, she was content and calm – Perfect! And just as a side note, Karen was so sweet to allow my kids to name her puppy for her. The loss of Calypso was very hard on both of them and the chance to not only watch this puppy grow but to name him for her? A true gift! Shows just how amazing of a person Karen is! My kids feel they need to see him a bit older to pick out the perfect name but I have a nick-name for him. He is my Little Burrito! That’s what he...

Settled In Nicely

After 30 hours since arriving, Ginny’s babies are doing fabulous! Each had a nice little weight gain over night and are loosing that bright red, just born tone. Their coat’s are dry and you can really see just how uniquely marked each puppy is. Man oh Man! I have never seen such a fun marked litter. From solids, to tri’s to spots – and LOTS of spots! This is the first litter Ginny has had to nurse in the new “bin cave” we have been using as of late. It does keep the heat more retained but our long, thick coated Ginny is retaining the heat too. Between her’s and the body heat from five puppies as well as a heating pad set on even...

Whole New World My Little Ones

Today we moved Colada and her puppies downstairs to enter our Puppy Kindergarten. It was a major move since they have been sharing a whelping box with Rane and her adopted baby boy. Not only would Flirtini and Gater have to adjust to the new sounds and smells of family life but Rane would be back to taking care of a single puppy without the help of additional body heat from Colada and her pups. A major adjustment for all. In only a week, our two mommies devised a perfect system and today I was making them start all over from scratch. But it had to be done! Colada’s pups are old enough to start their socialization, which simply cannot be done in the confines of my...

It Finally Happened

And I am not just talking about Ginny finally popping! Ginny’s last litter threw me a curve ball in the stage one department. In litters prior, her panting and nesting began within an hour of the first puppy arriving. Last litter, it started 12 hours before and ran straight through until the first pup arrived. No panting or nesting during. So when she started her panting and nesting last night, I wasn’t sure exactly where to take her. The whelping box in the guest bedroom or into my bed, where all the girls usually beg to start the stage one of their whelpings. We did a little bit of both this time. Started in my bed with her waking me at 3:45 am by pawing at...
