Campground Socialization

Socialization is extremely important when it comes to a toy, companion breed. There is nothing worse than a 5 pound dog with a Napoleon complex! We are using this camping trip as a way to provide some socialization to two of our unique cases.

Dude barks at anything and everything. A bag floating in the wind to the huge golden Labrador that is in the campsite two down from ours. While exploring the Rodman Dam this morning, of course, he had to be attached to his favorite human! All went very well on our adventure until a young man and his Boxer came to the spillway to fish. Of course, Dude the Chihuahua bark to get the attention of a dog 10 times larger than him! Dude simply was not going to back down so we created our own distraction so that he could move on with our self guided tour. We joked about how we might need a muzzle and were not prepared with one. We gave the leash a go as a possible solution. Ummm….not too bad!

Rane getting use to the sights and sounds of the campground

Now Rane on the other hand is a dog that would shake out of sink if it were possible at the sights, sounds, and smells of unfamiliar things. This campground is filled with many new senses to expose her too, so my waist is what Rane has been attached to today. She has layer in my lap and taken it all in with calm confidence!

All in all, the campground has provided us many opportunities to help our crew and I can only imagine what a few tours of the park can do for some of our others. Ace and Dewey love to get out and explore while Baby prefers to take unleashed adventures when we are camping. She rarely wanders far from our site, but we will have to make sure she doesn’t get near the canal – Rumor has it there are alligator in there!
