When breeding for show potential puppies, it is always best to get the opinion of an unbiased set of eyes and today was one of those evaluation days. My gut feelings have been growing for the past few months, all building up for this afternoon and I can proudly announce my gut was right! The good, the bad and the in-between.
When Karen’s amazing Chica produced her last litter, the prayers were for an amazing female to continue her amazing reign. Unfortunately, it was only The Burrito, the male puppy that we fostered for his first six weeks. When we were blessed to have Chicatoo join our crew, the honor was huge. Since Chica will no longer be whelping, I felt the honor needed to be that she return to her original home to allow that special reign to be continued by Karen. She brought this very special girl along for our evaluations today’s and we are proud to announce, she wowed! Structurally, she was very impressive and as we have always known, her temperament is ideal for the show ring.
Gator’s back end has always kept me on the fence for a while now. He was held back as a possible show prospect but his hocks had me concerned at the 8 week mark. Now his tail set and top line appear to be less than perfect. His temperament rocks and his head will be popping in a matter of months, but the structure is something that will come back to haunt me. So after today’s evaluation, that dream pet home idea I had in my mind will hopefully be coming to fruition.
And then there is Quik – He is everything I anticipated and possibly even more! He is one that will be getting a lot of my attention for the next several months and will be in the show ring before he turns one year old.
Quik is a gorgeous boy. Lots of luck to you with him. I also love the stack box that you had pictured in one of your other posts. My dad made me one about a month ago and they are wonderful.
Thank you! We are very excited about Quik.
And the stacking boxes? They are a fantastic tool. How did yours work out?
Ours has been working out great so far! I have been recovering from ankle surgery for the last two months, but we are finally starting to use it regularly. I have a Papillon and a Parson Russell and they are both doing a lot better on it. (Especially the Parson, as she is extremely crazy on the table, and is starting to calm down a bit!)
