For the last year now, we have been under the assumption that Dewey’s anorexic frame was a possible liver shunt. Because Doc was unable to get complete results when he did the blood work to test for it. Blood drawn on and empty stomach and then again after he had eaten was the plan. His anxiety kept him for eating away from home, leaving us with incomplete results that did point into the direction of a liver shut. But his skinny look was the only symptom that he showed. We always had extreme anxiety as the more logical answer. But the fear of putting him under intravenously has been high, either way. Knowing a liver shunt was the key player, Dewey only has a 70% of making it through his dental cleaning. Needles to say, I didn’t get much sleep last night and then had to get up at 6 am to get to our appointment this morning. Nerves were SHOT!
Right after we got there, they completed step one of our plan of attack – more blood work. Clearly Dewey’s anxiety was completely passed onto me because he passed with flying colors! You read that right! The results came back as normal. That eased my nerves a bit but of course, keeping with the gas is what boosted them even more. It didn’t take long at all for them to give me an all thumbs up report – So good that they were able to perform his sniparoo too! Shiney teeth, his retained puppy tooth gone and a major decrease in hormones – Now we all just need to pray for him to gain 6 ounces.
The Dewey news aside, the puppies came for their next set of vaccines and Ginny got her teeth done too! She did loose three little ones, but man, do those that remain look pearly white! And the droopiness didn’t last too long. She was bright eyed and bushy tailed half way during the drive home.
