The Pups Had A Blast

The Pups Had A Blast

Every Christmas, Santa brings our Chihuahuas a whole slew of new toys. He wraps them ever so carefully, so that they can easily open them. Again, since the tree is in the room they don’t have access to, this year Santa placed their gifts in their dog bed turned toy box. Our older dogs, seemed less than interested in doing the work this year. They looked at the wrapped toys, sniffed and the walked away. It was the puppies that had a complete blast! They ripped into the paper like it was doused in bacon fat. Some of the toys were twice as long as the pups but that didn’t stop them in the least! They drug them around the room and played chase to rip into the...

Santa Dewey

Santa Dewey

Tonight is our family’s Christmas celebration. Big family dinner (sea food of course), and staying up way late to exchange gifts. With the puppies set up in our normal family room spot, we gathered around the tree in our living room, which is gated off from the dogs. Well, all of the dogs except Dewey, because he can squeeze through the bars on the gate to get into the rest of the house. He crawled out to sit on my lap hours ago. Since we was so insistent on being a part of the festivities, I put on his special Santa suit to not only keep the chill away, but to also help him look more dashing than he already is! Between the rustling wrapping paper and the moving...

I Tried! Really, I Did!

I Tried! Really, I Did!

Last year, I had so much going on from Thanksgiving through New Years that having time to sit down our crew of dogs for the annual holiday photo was simply impossible. I had every intention of trying to get it done before winter was over and then, well, you read my blog! I have been knee deep in puppies since May! So for the lack of holiday photos last year, I do deeply apologize. I had every intention of making up for that this year. I had this idea in my head of all my Chihuahuas, lined up pretty and happy, making the perfect group shot. What I saw in my head was nowhere near what I witnessed with my eyes. There was always one or two who just had to be difficult! I...

It’s That Time Again

It’s That Time Again

Putting up the Christmas tree has always been our annual family tradition. My husband and I put up the trees and hang the lights and then our kids decorate. It is normally a full day event because was have a more formal tree in our living room and then a family tree in our family room. This year we will not be putting up the family tree because we have the puppy pen set up in the tree spot. Perhaps Dewey caught on to the change in plans since we all spent the last 2 hours in the room the dogs are gated off from and not cuddled up with them on the couch. Eventually he poked his way through the gate and came in with us – Obviously trying to do what he could to help....

Humans and Dogs Alike

Happy Thanksgiving to all our family and friends – Human and Canine like! We have to many things to be thankful for and spending such a wonderful holiday with those we love makes it that much better. We have ALL finished up our fantastic turkey dinners (Yes, the Chihuahuas had their own home cooked Thanksgiving meal too) and based on this photo, can you tell what we are all doing? Lounging, napping and watching the Lions vs the Packers...

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!

While our evening will most likely be filled with tons of fireworks in the distance, last night was our celebration. Living close to Uptown Altamonte, the annual Red, Hot and Boom fireworks display was last night, inspiring us to let off some sparklers ourselves. As with every thunderstorm (as I previously explained) Dude has mini panic attacks at the loud booms and bangs, hiding as best he can and shaking harder as the night progresses. Poor guy! And tonight has been a repeat, with him hiding under the couch and begging for the madness to stop! Now the puppies? That’s a whole other story! They played and/or napped through both nights of firework booms with no...

Ready To Ring In 2011

We humans have had a rather quiet night thus far. We have been cuddled up on the couch, watching movies and eating popcorn. All of which the Chihuahuas have joined in on too. It’s what we do every year. Nice and calm and relaxing. The change for this year was pleasantly surprising! The kids got beanbag chairs for Christmas and they have remained in the living room ever since. The kids have turned them into their very own private seating for movie time. While up filling the popcorn bowl as we get ready to watch the ball drop, I came back to find that Ace likes the new arrangements so much he kinda took my son’s over. He totally has the right...

We Are Now 1 in 12

Listening to a story on NPR inspired my husband to pick up a gift for me that never in his wildest dreams would he have thought to buy. Mostly because we have poked fun at them for the last two years. The Snuggie is now owned by close to 25 million people – that’s 1 in 12 – so to add to the joke, he bought one for me. Little did either of us know that we would have more record breaking temperature lows. The low 30′s last night and again tonight! It only reached the 40′s today! OUCH!!! And guess who saved my day? You guessed it! My kitschy, pink Snuggie!!! It actually kept me and six Chihuahuas cozy...

Santa Was Here…

Santa Was Here…

…and he left a new toy under the tree for each of our dogs.  Each year they are allowed to rip right into the wrapping paper and chew out their new treasures. It has taken a while to teach them when they are allowed and NOT allowed to chew paper but I have never had to teach them the different between new and old toys. It is so interesting to watch how even in a huge pile of dog toys, they can sniff out and find their new ones and only play with those. I see many happy dog playing hours in our near...
