Wonderful Way To Wake Up
The lack of cell service up here at Rodman Campground has made emails come in at a trickles pace. The email Karen sent last night didn’t full download until this morning, but boy was it worth the wait! She sent a sampling of photos that she has been snapping during their stay, and clearly, they are having a blast at the KZ Bed and Breakfast! And the fact that she did a little photo-shoot too? My daughter and I packed up the puppies, Chicatoo, Ginny and Blue to head over to Karen’s for their extended stay and as I drove, I realized this is Ginny’s puppies very first car ride! Gator did fabulous on his first ride so he knew exactly what to do. Jump out of the carrier and right into my daughter’s lap. The younger ones were a bit hesitant but about half way there, they too crawled out and joined the others. I did do one major faux pas during the drive. My daughter was in the backseat with the dogs while I was of course, in the front. The temps were in the 80′s so it was a bit warm in the car. I ran the AC to keep things cool for the ride...

We are gearing up for our annual Thanksgiving gaming trip and we have decided that Ginny’ puppies are just too little tiny to be taken into the woods for a week. Too tiny for me to feel comfortable with them getting their first set of vaccines too. Reactions are more common than one would think and I would hate to have to tend to that while in the middle of the Ocala National Forest! So I have been doing double duty on laundry and then packing to bring the crew over to Karen’s for her to puppy sit while we are gone. When Ted contacted us to come see Flirtini in person, I just knew she was the perfect fit for him and his family. But a photo and description can’t capture the true puppy and in this case, seeing her face to face made an almost instant connection. Even though Colada’s puppies are 9 weeks old, when they see a chance to nurse, they take it! Today, while playing in the living room, Flirtini noticed her mom trying to sneak out of the room. Since she was blocked by the gate we use to separate the living room from the kitchen, she glommed on for a little snack. Gater heard the suckling sound and ran over to join in. With our little sweeties finally 8 weeks old, they finally got their first deep conditioning, fully foamed bath. Of the two, Gater was the calmest and seemed to truly enjoy all of the attention. Flirtini on the other hand was a tad bit more apprehensive to the water but realized quickly that the scrubbing felt really good! Both weighed in yesterday at the 1 and 1/2 pound mark. This of course means they both got their tiny size from their daddy Ace and I truly don’t see either ever making the 5 pound mark – More like 4 to 4 1/2...

While we were off enjoying life at the beach this weekend, Karen had her hands full, keeping the girls and all of the pups occupied. Based on the pictures that she snapped during her stay, I would definitely say it looked like everyone had fun! Humans and dogs alike! The Burrito got his first taste of gooey, gooshy, mushy, puppy food. The leftovers from Flirtini and Gater were put over with Ginny to finish. The Burrito’s sniffer sniffed that smell out and to the plate he ran! Yummmm-eeeee Karen also did a bit of conformation training with Gater to get him into gear for the show ring. Did I stick that tunage in your head? If so, then you can sing along with me every time we head out to the vet’s. We made the trip today and as always, it turned into an all day event. We took Colada’s two puppies in for their 8 week vaccines and health certificates. They napped the entire drive there, were absolutely wonderful at Dr. Atreaga’s office (being given a perfect bill of health of course) and napped all the way back. Not a single potty accident, whine, vaccine reaction or carsick belly gurgle. They actually emptied their bladders the second I put them on the pee-pad after we got home. The pups turned 7 weeks old today and they finally had a significant weight gain. The transition from waddlers to runners is really pivotal and now that they have reached this point, the real fun begins. We also have a lot of adventures in-store for them. From rather regular play sessions in the kitchen, running free and exploring to napping on the couch with the rest of us for DVR catch up time all the way to their first road trip and vet visit!
