In just a matter of days, Gator has proven to all that he is exactly where he needs to be. He has bonded with all of the humans, and the cat, it was Einstein that we all knew would take the longest. Tonight, it became official! While laying on the couch, after a very long day, Einsten was having a hard time. He was exhausted! They covered him with a blanket to rest up from the day’s adventures. Such adventures are exhausting to a 15 year old dog! Clearly, Gator was intuned to his canine housemate. The two have passed at the water bowl since Gator’s arrival, including a warning snarl from the cranky only man. But tonight, he realized that Gator is one cool...
Read MoreI have shared how Gator’s grandma fell head over heels for him and after the confirmation of my concerns with his structure, her dream of making him hers was fulfilled. The moment I told her that he could go home with her, I could actually hear her heart skip a beat over the phone. Today was the day and the welcoming committee was there to greet him. Of course, his new forever family humans were tickled pink but the feline and canine members were the ones we were most excited about introducing to him. They could make or break the plan! Skittles the cat immediately wanted to play. Gator was taken aback at first but soon realized, she was a friend, not a foe. Now...
Read MoreWhen breeding for show potential puppies, it is always best to get the opinion of an unbiased set of eyes and today was one of those evaluation days. My gut feelings have been growing for the past few months, all building up for this afternoon and I can proudly announce my gut was right! The good, the bad and the in-between. When Karen’s amazing Chica produced her last litter, the prayers were for an amazing female to continue her amazing reign. Unfortunately, it was only The Burrito, the male puppy that we fostered for his first six weeks. When we were blessed to have Chicatoo join our crew, the honor was huge. Since Chica will no longer be whelping, I felt the...
Read MoreOur tweenagers are becoming more and more comfortable with the rest of our pack, and have come to love life in the kitchen. Napping in the doggy beds is only part of it! That’s the room that provides dropped pieces of food from the counter and table. That’s the room that gives access to the back patio, that always seems to have a leaf or two blown into. That’s the room that has the most sunlight. That’s their new favorite...
Read MoreNow that the weather is so nice, the puppies have been spending a lot more time outside in our backyard. They are beyond loving the chance to play chase in their big, wide, new world. So much so that once we “carried” them back in – No, they would not come in on their own – They crashed hard!
Read MoreWay back when Ace was just a couple months older than his son Gator, he went to stay with a very close friend of ours and her family. She fell hard for Ace’s sweet face and even sweeter demeanor. He stayed with her until he was about a year old – When he was ready to start breeding. Of course, since then, we have had many black and white, long coat Chihuahua pups but not until now have we had an Ace puppy with the same colors. When Gator was about 3 weeks old, she was over for a visit and without me even saying a word, she squealed, “Oh My Goodness! This is Ace’s baby isn’t it?” A “Grandma” knows I tell you! She is here a...
Read MoreEvery year, I do another photo shoot of our entire crew. Slowly I will be adding their new 2012 photos to their pages on the site. Be sure to cheek them out! This year I couldn’t help but notice the signs of aging on many of our older dogs. Dark coated dogs shows the signs the most and Buddy and Blue seem to have the most white hairs popping up! And since I had all of he gear set up, I went ahead and did new photos of the puppies too. A bit of bacon flavored treats is what I used to keep their attention and with this being the little one’s full blown photo shoot, I think the bacon smell was their favorite part! I normally don’t like to do photos of...
Read MoreI think all of us are over this cold weather crap! Between me actually having to wear socks on my feet and the array of blanket tossed about for us to keep warm, the dogs have found both changes to be their cold weather friends. The puppies run around, raising that body heat, and then jump back into the crate to cuddle. Luckily their crate is in one of the best sunspots in the house and the afternoon ray’s heat keeps these pups the perfect...
Read MoreBrought the puppies to Dr. Mario for their next set of vaccines and of course, Dewey for a check up. The puppies did fantastic without a single whimper or whine at the pricks and pokes. Most importantly, no reactions and again, no potty accidents on the drive there and back. We also discussed our sweet Dewey and after much consideration, I think we have agreed on the perfect plan. His other issues aside, his need for a teeth cleaning has become the more important procedure. If we leave his poopoo mouth the way it is much longer – Liver shunt or not – His issues could become more life threatening. We need to get his teeth cleaned before it becomes an...
