Eval Day

When breeding for show potential puppies, it is always best to get the opinion of an unbiased set of eyes and today was one of those evaluation days. My gut feelings have been growing for the past few months, all building up for this afternoon and I can proudly announce my gut was right! The good, the bad and the in-between. When Karen’s amazing Chica produced her last litter, the prayers were for an amazing female to continue her amazing reign. Unfortunately, it was only The Burrito, the male puppy that we fostered for his first six weeks. When we were blessed to have Chicatoo join our crew, the honor was huge. Since Chica will no longer be whelping, I felt the...

Show-Offs

The pups are back to their daily schedule here at our house and apparently, they learned a few new tricks while we were gone. If you close the door to the crate, you gain more access to the food bowl and Peanut has the skill mastered. This is something I would expect to see from Gator, who is a full month older. At 9 weeks old, Ginny’s puppies have shown us that they are very smart and advanced for their age. I do truly believe that Gator and his antics have rubbed off. Since we are trying to keep up with his conformation training, keeping him in the puppy pen while we still have little ones under foot has paid off in more ways than...

Fun Match Weekend

We have so been looking forward to this weekend. The Tampa Bay Chihuahua Club’s Fun Match was scheduled for today! I knew we wouldn’t have a puppy to enter (ours are too young or too old) but I thought it would be a fabulous way to socialize Gater and get him geared up for the show ring. The weather was perfect and the company even better. It was so nice to be in a more laid-back environment whilst still witnessing conformation greatness. There were so many fabulous puppies as well as adults getting the way of the ring and table without the stress of a formal show. Of course, the crowd favorite was the costume contest. All were so adorable – So much...

They Were Busy

While we were off enjoying life at the beach this weekend, Karen had her hands full, keeping the girls and all of the pups occupied. Based on the pictures that she snapped during her stay, I would definitely say it looked like everyone had fun! Humans and dogs alike! The Burrito got his first taste of gooey, gooshy, mushy, puppy food. The leftovers from Flirtini and Gater were put over with Ginny to finish. The Burrito’s sniffer sniffed that smell out and to the plate he ran! Yummmm-eeeee Karen also did a bit of conformation training with Gater to get him into gear for the show ring. Starting with stacking and a wee bit of Pupperoni, a stacking’ he did do!...

50th TBCC Specialty

A long, fun, eventful and totally memorable day today! We headed out to the Tampa Bay Chihuahua Club 50th Specialty dog show and since it was so close, we were able to spend the entire day there – Start to Finish! TOTALLY AWESOME! We got to catch up with our other dog friends, check out their newest additions and get the latest on the conformation world. Today was beyond filling and my head is a whirling. Ideas a plenty! And inspiration to get back into the ring with our sweet Ace. I see a lot of dog shows in our...
