Watching her play and display her beautiful self sack has gotten me SO excited to watch her grow and mature, hoping for a bright future in the show ring come this Spring once she is old enough. Her self confidence and love of life is exactly what any dog needs to enter the ring and be successful – The show world needs to be prepared for the Smooch!

I just really want to thank you for your blog. As a newbie, I had not been able to find any valuable information on the web nor from people in or around the dog show. Lots of critical folks or people who seemed offended or bothered with questions or me asking for a mentor, I wondered how I was ever going to get started….I come from a competitive background, but always had coaches!! Not this time….nobody wanted to help! I was frustrated and ready to throw in the towel….until I found your site. Thank you for blogging and sharing your experiences. You have no idea how much I appreciate it, as someone who truly wants to learn the art of showing, with very few willing to teach. Sometimes I wonder who people think is going to carry the torch when they are gone….people should encourage, not discourage, those of us who want to learn. It would help everyone grow and be better handlers, owners and breeders eventually if that’s what they wish to do. I applaud you for spending the time to teach those of us thirsty for the knowledge. Your blog is the reason that I felt confident enough to go into the ring and show my pup….and I had a great time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and please continue to posts your blogs. Blessings to you and your family, and fur kids, – Jennifer
WOW! Thank you Jennifer! You made my night – Heck! You made my year! And I am talking all of 2013!
You hit several nails on the head and it is so sad that this sport can be so cutthroat. I too feel it is such a shame that so many can be less than kind. Finding a good mentor is not an easy task and often times the suggestions given are not to your benefit, but theirs! Figuring it all out is often times harder than actually stepping into the ring! That IS the reason I share my experiences and have started to do the same for my daughter. To now know that my journey has helped and inspired another means so much to me! THANK YOU!
One thing I did eventually learn – On my own of course- Is that in addition to attending conformation classes, the best place to learn is at the actual dog show itself. The facility comes with its own sights, smells and sounds that the dog has to get accustom to and also, the nerves and anxiety is only truly felt there – Sure, conformation class costs 10.00 to 15.00 but doubling that for your entry fees is well worth every penny. That’s where you and your dog will really learn! That and – they always seem to do better on day two of a show weekend. Human and canine alike 😉
I would love to hear about your “journey” – How did you and your pup do?
