New One For Me

This is a first for me. I’m not handing out candy at my front door this Halloween, I am helping assist with an artificial insemination! I’m not quite sure what to think on the outcome. We shall see how things turn out. My intention was to breed Georgie and KC. As I explained earlier, that breeding it’ll I’ll me to close in on my two lines and bring them together. Since KC has a tilted uterus and cannot breathe naturally I am left with only one option, an A.I. and I’m at the mercy of the A.I.

Mr. Georgie was not cooperating. Or at least his urges weren’t. Rita tried for quite a while to collect from him and it just was not going to happen. Talk about blue balls? Poor little guy! At this point we were left with a choice. Skip the breeding or try another male. This is going to be KC’s last season. She’s getting up in age and I do not want put her through the hormones anymore. This was her day 10 – the day to start the breeding!! Rita suggested we go with Patriot Eddie’s father and Tino’s grandfather. It would it would not bring in the newer stuff so. That is what Georgie brings. I hemmed and hawed but finally to find decided to go for it. I figured I would do the one insemination and let fate make the decisions for me. If we artificially inseminated with Georgie I would come back in two days for a second breeding. All it really takes is one so this is where fate had to take over. We shall see if we have a litter around the first of the year.

I can say it was kind of funny to watch KC while she was being inseminated. She kept looking over at Georgie the entire time. He looked defeated and she looked disappointed. Like “Dude, what is up?”

Primin the Pump

So it looks like KC has gone into season – Just as planned. I have been anticipating this heat because it will be her last litter and Georgie’s last breeding. My goal is to retire the both after this breeding, finishing the circle of bringing the two lines that I have been creating onto one! Georgie is beside himself with excitement! She has never been able to naturally breed but I let him get a whiff to help prime the pump a bit! We will do an AI next week sometime!

A Table Bit of Table Training

Kat came by to pick up mom and babies (his power was restored this morning) and he stuck around for bit to checkout our litter of Chihuahuas. He too finds our sweet smooth coat girl to be the pick of the litter AKA my show dog for 2018. It was a bitt sweet day saying goodbye to the Frenchies but I also have a whole new appreciation for my table work!

I have always struggled with stacking on the table so Kat gas me some awesome pointers and I will be forever grateful! not only ways to position my hands to make the dog more of the focus but also to place the rear feet FIRST and then the front. It made a huge difference. I will use these tips with TIno fr the rest of the year and am so excited to show Teeny on January. OMG!! Thank you Kat!

8 Weeks Old

The puppies are officially 8 weeks old today and we have decided to place all three boys in pet homes. Each is sweet as ever and would make fabulous new-additions. Vice and Thunder would make wonderful family pets! And I am here to tell you that this photo was a true miracle. That’s right! ONE single photo that came out decent. Their individual photos turned out beautiful – The group shot? Not so much. I didn’t even anticipate one so this was a true win in my book! Especially since it is better than last week’s group shots!

3 Week Old Chunkers

OMG are these puppies some rolly pollies!!! Millie has uber milk for sure because the fat on these guys is just too adorable! I see them taking their own sweet time getting up and being mobile. Why when their food source comes to them every hour?? I went ahead and arranged the whelping box so half is covered with a pee-pad and is flat – hopefully they will get up and waddle over to potty! Time to work off the chunk guys!

He Can’t Wait!

Georgie snuck into the nursery/whelping room today and got a peek at his puppies. OMG to see his excitement was just too adorable! His little tail just went nuts!!! He whined trying to get in the whelping box with them and you could see it was taking everything in him to stop from playing with them! He SO loves puppies and for the first time our litter is HIS!!!

I would say about another week before they can come downstairs buddy – But I promise, you will be playing with them soon!

Too Cute Not To Capture

I just had to snap photos of this adorable puppy pileup! LOOK AT THEM!!! This is such a laid-back litter of puppies. Seriously, very chill! I can pick them up, lay them on their backs in the palm of my hands and just love on them for hours. I cannot tell you how many times I have had them suckling on my nose or fingers. They are all just so sweet. I cannot wait to see if they stay that way – Mom and dad’s temperaments are some of my favs – I hope some have Milly’s!!!

I Week Old

Milly is definitely growing them on the outside! Her Uber-milk is MAJORLY Uber! The puppies have just about doubled their birth weight and all have constant plump bellies. I LOVE plump puppy bellies! Unlike our last litter with KC, where I had to supplement and hand feed to keep bellies full, I love when the milkbar does it’s job, and then some!

I also have come to the conclusion that since they are all creamy in color and they were born in the summer, we are going to go with beachy drink names for this litter. I have been having a lot of fun trying to find the perfect names – I hope to unveil them in a couple of weeks!

Pluming Up Nicely

As with all litters born here, I documented the puppies at 3 days old yesterday with a weigh-in and photoshoot. They are all gaining weight nicely, plumping up like I expected. I also now have a chance to see what some of their markings might be. We have two cream with Irish markings, like their mommy and three marked like their daddy Georgie, white with fawn spots – some more random that others. I can’t wait to see them change even more! SO exciting!

They are a very chill litter of puppies with only one being vocal (the last boy born). Milly has taken to them in an equally chill fashion. She clearly does what she needs to and is attentive but not overly consumed. She still loves attention from her humans so we give it to her often – allowing us to also handle her pups a lot. It’s a twofer!!! Love when that happens!
