He would position himself underneath dog bed while in the puppy pen and under the blankets while in the whelping box. I have always found it interesting because he is a long coat and usually smooth coats are the burrowers. Now that the pups send he majority of the day out of the pen, the couch has become their favorite nap-time spot and he burrows there too. Finding a spot between the pillows is the norm an positioning himself UNDER pillows is what is usually does at night. Now he is still a long coat and it is Florida! So a periodic cooling-off is also part of the cycle. That’s what we have going on now – The cool down!
The post The Burrower first appeared on Figgy's Chihuahuas AKC Show Breeder/Handler in Florida.

I have been mentioning the “puppy uglies” that long coat Chihuahua puppies go through, for years. Seriously, there are so pups that get down right nasty looking! The loss of their puppy coat begins around 3 1/2-4 months and for a period of time there, they look like smooth coats. The fringe on their ears and tail are the only way to know they are long coats, some times.

I decided to take the time to document the evolution of our latest long coat puppy, Bubbles. From being an 8 week old ball of fluff, right through to her now stunning and silky adult coat at just around a year old. Not only can you see the change in the coat, but be sure to note the changes that come along with sabled Chihuahua puppies.

Sabled pups get lighter, with the sabling oftentimes reducing to a bit of subtle black on the tail and ears. Of course, Bubbles also has a black mask like her daddy and that too morphed as she matured. Interesting evolution all the way round, wouldn’t ya say?
The post The Evolution of a Long Coat first appeared on Figgy's Chihuahuas AKC Show Breeder/Handler in Florida.

I like to have a couple crawl-in cat beds on hand for puppies because they make a fabulous den for more than one little one. With the temps getting down over night, I thought I would put one in for the girls to use tonight. Within minutes, they made it their own and showed the true instincts and habits of long coat Chihuahuas vs. smooth coat Chihuahuas.

Smooth coats burrow while long coats do not. So clearly when you have one of each coat in a cat bed, the long coat lays on top to help keep the smooth coat even warmer! Brilliant!
The post What A Cat Bed Can Teach You first appeared on Figgy's Chihuahuas AKC Show Breeder/Handler in Florida.
