Final ‘Round the Ring

We have switched handlers on Mia for the third time this weekend, hoping that with Abrey, she might get around the ring in a bit more graceful manner. God bless those of muscles because Abrey did it by bending over and coaxing her ll the way. No way in HELL I could have gotten down that low!!!!

They both did awesome! Since Abrey was part of Mia and here sister’s lives from day one, they bod was definitely evident today. It was so sweet to watch Mia’s attachment and devotion to Abrey. Soooooo Adorable!

In in her final show appearance, Mia won Best of Breed Puppy! And YES! There was competition too! So proud – and a perfect way to end her show career. Love it when you end on positive 😀

Onto The Long Coat Ring

After the amazing success in the Pug Ting, we moved onto the Chihuahua ring and left our mark in a totally different way! While Smoochie returned home fighting a very nasty infection, KC came home with a pretty big flea colony! Like her mommy, one flea will put her into a tizzy. The sheer number turned her tizzy into an entire pantaloon chew-off session. Poor baby! And without her coat, KC is looking pretty rough and totally exposed. I entered KC today to help with the club’s entries and to allow Alexis to have something to show while I worked with Mia. It was all for fun and fun is exactly what KC had! She was a tail-waggin’ happy girl out there and both girls beard with confidence.

Now confidence was NOT what Mia exuded in any way shape or form! We thought that with Alexis showing her inset dog me that the realist may be a bit more elegant. Well, that didn’t happen, that’s for sure! More biting at the dots on the carpet and even with a firm hand, NO desire to be in the ring. After much discussion with her co-owner, we have come to the conclusion that perhaps the ring should NOT in Mia’s future, more like a couch and lap. Mia went home with Sandy today to start the transition. Big are we going to miss her amazing temperament and playful ways!

Enlightening Afternoon

Following the Juniors was the Sweepstakes, and let me tell you , it was very interesting to watch.

No matter how many hours we spent working with Mia on her lead and table training, she was NOT about to show any confidence in the ring today. Getting her around the ring was not a pretty sight, but I was persistent and we made it to the end. I think tomorrow we are going to see if having Alexis handle her gets a bit more elegant results.

Now Bella on the other hand blew us away! Since the entires were already in when we made the decision to have her become Ozzie’s new BFF, we opted to still bring her along for the day. Can I tell you that she did an amazing job? Seriously! She made it all the way around the ring with her tail and head held high. I was so impressed that I decided to get a show photo to document her confidence at her very last show.

When we move on to the actual Specialty, her confidence continued. So much so, she won first place in her class! A true, bonafide win on her last trip around the ring? You bet I ordered another photo from the day!

Now Mia on the other hand, she too continued her less than desirable strut around the ring, showing that the pattern on the carpet was what was mesmerizing her – Inspiring her actually try to bite the dots off the carpet patterns! That has been a trip to watch!

Our Eternal Puppy

Beamer is forever playing and greeting our fellow dogs with the energy of youth that can only be described as puppyhood. He was the first to welcome and bond with Boomer, a Pug that is five times his size.

Beamer may be over a year old but he is truly our eternal puppy. So with Mia being the newest, free-roaming puppy playmate for the Beam, these two never seem to stop! Ever! Seriously! And Mia is quite the challenging opponent. She likes to go for the rear thigh. Brilliant!

Been To Training?

You can tell these dogs have received training. With all of the dogs running in the backyard this morning, my daughter raised her hand and noticed that those that have been bait trained immediately stood at attention. There was no bait or anything, just a raised hand. And there they stood at her feet with tails wagging away! What were the others doing you may ask? Chasing their tails and chewing on sticks. No interest at all in the fake bait. But those that did pay attention were eventually rewarded. Oh yes! We finally pulled out the chicken!

Totally At Home

Mia ia so totally part of the family now – It’s as if she has been here from the beginning! I so love when a transition goes so smoothly. She makes everything so easy! When she first got here, we tried to feed her separately to transition her from the her food to ours. She wouldn’t eat alone and she would eat her food. She immediately wanted our food and she wanted to eat it with the rest of her new canine family. Some might call it competitive – I call it Mia being Mia.

Mia Loves The Puppies

The puppies are at the totally playful stage and Mia is loving that! If the puppies are out of the open to play, she is right there, ready and waiting to dive into the fun. Games of chase are her favorite but she has also shown that she has some amazing motherly instincts. Cleaning fronts and rears (butts and faces) are always included in the play sessions and she has learned to be very gentle with them.

Our Hunter-Gatherer

Mia is DA BOMB! I must thank my dear friend Sandy with Kesabrey Chihuahuas for the amazing opportunity to bring Mia into our home and into our hearts. She has only been here for about 36 hours and it is as if she has lived here her entire life! She blended right into the pack with out a single blip on the radar, has kissed and licked every human and canine and she even helped me find the backing to the old TV remote control I lost about 8 months ago. She is a hunter-gather for sure, finding and gathering every single dog toy that she can find. And if the kids happen to drop anything on the floor, you can count on Mia to grab it up and bring it over to her favorite doggy bed underneath our grooming table to place with later. Mia is four and a half months old and has brought that puppy spirit back into the house. She LOVES our tiny pups but also loves to get our teenage pups and even adults, into games of chase and tug-o-war, any chance she can get.
