Stick-Tights Suck

Florida grass – if you can actually call it that – SUCKS!!!!! Seriously!

We all want the luscious green yard but in this State it really is just a bunch of weeds. And when you don’t keep it cut the stick-tights take over. I usually have get the hint loud and clear when a long coat comes in with a few on them. Today it was insane!! Beyond SCREAMING that the yard needs tending to when your long coat AND your smooth coat come in covered from head to toe! YIKERS! Sorry guys!

You’re A Show Dog Now

We are back for the road for our third week but this time in Ocala. I have such a small amount of time spent at my actual home that I run out of time to get anything done – Life on the road at dogs shows!

Tonight I had to drive to the hotel and then bathe Tipsy in the hotel tub. She’s used to the luxury of the facilities at home. This is a true induction to dog show life my darling! You handled it like a champ!

Boy’s Bathtime

The boys are going home to their new forever family tomorrow so a bath and nail trim were in order. This is only their second bath ever but this one was detailed! Ears, face, between the toes and three separate slatherings! Whitener, shampoo and conditioner! They were such troopers. And now handsome and ready for their debut tomorrow!

Quick Staining Tip

I have beefed Georgie up and plan on bringing him back out to shows. His year off has allowed him to partake in a habit that he got from his daddy – Chewing on his toes on his rear feet. The staining that he chewing creates is beyond annoying – more so that tear stains in ways because it stands out like a sore thumb! Here is a trick to remove this staining…

Soak the feet in hydrogen peroxide for about 1 minute. Past the feet dry without wiping or rinsing it off. The peroxide with not only remove the staining but it will kill the fungus that creates it. You can also use peroxide to remove tear staining by dabbing it on carefully wth a Q-Tip.

Bathing Beauty

Today I got to give Olive her final luxurious bath in the Figgy bathtub. I love this dog more than anything and I’m so happy Gail has agreed to bring her home with her. Keeping Olive safe and happy all that matters to me! And knowing I will still get to see her makes it all that much better to deal with.

Please keep them both in your thoughts and prayers that everything goes as planned. I couldn’t ask for a better person take care of her!

No Chicken Dinner

So today was just not our day at the dog show. It’s not that any of the dogs did poorly they just didn’t wow the judges! Plus there was a ring conflict and I had to show Stella – she balked a bit at the down and back again – it must totally be me!!! We were in and our of the show sight in less than 2 hours! With early ring times, that made for a pretty lengthy amount of time to fill. Darius and I decided to play tourist and explore Macon. Honestly…not that impressed! But we did get out, ate a great lunch and took in the sights so that is always good!

Back at the hotel room we returned to the grooming of Brittany, the corded Havanses, It is actually very relaxing and in some ways, therapeutic. Cutting the tiny random “hairs” off her cords is tedious but you can spend hours doing it and she just lays there loving the attention. We stayed up until 1 am doing it last night and we are back at it today. She looks so good!!! Tomorrow will be her day!!!

Big Boy Bath Time

Tomorrow is Mr. Tino’s big dog show debut. We have been taking him to shows to expose him to the sights, sounds and smells of an all-breed dog show for the last couple months, but today he received his very first showroom. That of course includes a bath with four different products, air-force drying, brushing, combing, fluffing and trimming. He was quite the trooper. He will literally turned six months old tomorrow so with his age in mind I should say he was amazing!

She Really Has Learned A Lot

Holy Guacamole! Alexis really has learned a lot since the last time that she groomed Ginny! She needed guidance and help in trimming her but this time, it was only a couple of pointers and voila! A beautiful trimmed Ginny! Kristie helped her with the tail and a bit around the ears. I was rather impressed with how level she held the trimmer, creating a very smooth cut. From bath to dry to groom BEAUTIFUL JOB ALEXIS!!!

Pearly Whites

We plan on breeding our sweet Barbie one more time (to our new Champion, Georgie!) and then retire her to an amazing forever family. Prepping her for her final litter included a need for her teeth to be cleaned.

Julie comes to both As The Tail Wags Grooming locations once a month and performs dental cleanings without anesthesia. She does such an amazing job and for a dog that is less than joyful over being out and about, handled it all beautifully! It was the best stress-free option for her. I beyond recommend Julie and suggest that you contact the Oviedo or Titusville shops and get on the appointment list.

Dremel Time

We have been working on getting Breezy’s nails trimmed down but with her quicks being so long, it’s taking a lot longer than we would like. When you fail to trim your dog’s nails as frequently as needed, the quick grows along with the nail. In some cases, when the nails are extra-long, the quick may lengthen so much that it reaches the tip. That’s what has happened with Breezy. Trimming her nails once a week is a slow process but we need to get them short for the shows in Ocala in three weeks. We have decided to speed up the process a bit by using the Dremel.

A Dremel is at the prefect choice because it cauterizes as it grids the nail and with some detailed instructions from Kristie, Alexis was able to learn a quick way to Dremel a less than cooperative dog. Looks Like we know what we will be doing every Thursday for the time being!
