I have commented several times that Chihuahuas are just like cats wen it comes to walking across and napping the backs of couches. The majority scale the backs to get from one side to the other but a select few have mastered the whole napping thing. So when I stooped by our friend’s for a visit today, it is clear that I have to give Bubbles the “best ever” award – She slept on the corner of your sectional while she lived with us and now she does at her new forever home. They just got a new sectional themselves – HAD to take note!

Bubs and The Oz Man

The Figgy Hotel

Bubbles came and spent the weekend here with us while her family went on their own vacation and just like every time she’s here, she acts like she never left! Moving right into the regular swing of things, the only difference this time was the fact that she got to play this her now much older baby girl, Olive. It was so sweet to watch the two of them wrestling on the couch and chase each other in the back yard.

Bubble’s “spot” has always been on the back of the couch, laying herself smack dab in the center of the corner piece, giving her the perfect lookout perch. When she wasn’t playing with her daughter, that’s where you could find her. Again, like she never left!

What An Awesome Day!

This is what two teenagers, two escaped moms and six Chihuahuas packed in the car for a record breaking day of fun looks like. When we heard about the Chihuahua De Mayo event at the Daytona Band Shell, I knew we just had to go! I mean come on! We have a slew of them! Our only dilemma was finding enough two-piece costumes. Seriously! Sweaters and t-shirts a plenty around here but costumes not so much. After a 4 hour long shopping spree this week, we were able to find enough to dress and bring Bubbles, Beamer, KC, Tipsy, Ty and Milly.

Once we got registered we didn’t have to wait long for us to try break a Guinness Book of Word Records by having 200 Chihuahuas in costume for a parade. We all gathered at the Bandshell and I can tell you that it was so cool to be around so many Chihuahua loving folks today! the excitement was electric and the desire to break that record. They announced that we had a count of 209!!! The goal was 200 and the previous record was 124 so I would have to say that today was a true success!!!!

The Mariachi Band – “Charros De Mexico” – kept the entire crowd entertained the whole afternoon. I think we may need to look in to hiring them for the Meet The Breeds booth in December! The music was a plenty and they remained engaged with all of us Chihuahua peeps as well.

The temperatures were perfect but the sun was direct and our crew was getting a tad warm – Especially in costumes! We found a nice shady spot to plop the doggy stroller and opted to only bring KC, Beamer and Bubbles in the parade. This was Milly and Ty’s only second social event – The first being our B Match back in March. Neither are actually “walking” on leads so getting them to walk with leashes and collars was something completely new. Tipsy was over the stranger’s hands in her face and was getting a bit snippy so those three stayed behind while we ventured beach-side for the parade.

Parade prizes were handed out for King & Queen Chihuahua winners, best costume, best temperament, best hat, best duo and best trio. None of our sweet Chi-Chi Crew were selected but Sugar was given an Honorable Mention!!! SO PROUD!!

Now this is what two teenagers, two windblown moms and six Chihuahuas packed in the car for ride back home after breaking a Guinness Book of Word Record looks like. I really do hope that they plan on holding this event again next year. They got the whole “registered/full breed Chihuahua” thing worked out, which I think caused some confusion – I would love to see even more entries next year!

Miss Indépendant

Little Miss Olive has spent every night this week with the other puppies and away from her mommy. Bubba handle the transition perfectly and clearly, little Miss Independent Olive did as well. Not a single issue and actually the largest weight gain to date – She is up to 13.5 ounces!!!!

Now, while mom and daughter sleep apart at night, it is during the day – during play sessions to be exact – They bond in such an adorable way. Wrestling and playing like only they can. You see, when Olive is playing with the other puppies, she is rough and rowdy. The same with Bubbles. But when mom and daughter get to playing, they are different – More gentle but determined. She is growing up so fast!

The Dead Balloon

Yes, the Balloon has made it a month and the puppies are forever thankful. Today was it’s final day on this earth – I put it out of it’s misery – but not before the pups had one more exciting play session.

It hovered close enough to the ground that with a swift paw, could be swiped like a volleyball. That is exactly what happened to! They pawed it back and forth for what seemed to be hours.

At the same time, the older girls/mommies -Barbie, Tipsy and Bubbles – sunbathed on the rug and watched the pups play – Like moms sitting and watching their little ones play at the park, they periodically got up to scold or wrangle a pup and then back to their on spot they went.

Olive doesn’t have the stamina that the older pups have and she usually cuddles up in a nearby doggy bed to nap well before they are put up in the pen. Today she cuddled up with her mommy in the sun – PRECIOUS!

She’s Sayin’ It’s Time

So now that Olive is 5 weeks old, the time required from her mommy, Bubbles, is getting less and less. At this age, I would normally have her downstairs in a pen and being socialized to family life. Because Olive is so much tinier than the other pups, bringing her and Bubbles down hasn’t really been an option in my mind. Bubbles has been saying otherwise today She has been begging to come down more often than not. She actually she ended up spending the majority of the afternoon frolicking in the backyard. So I think that tomorrow we need to see if her message is being understood – We are going to bring Olive downstairs to spend the afternoon with all…

Gettin’ Chubby

Lil’ Miss Olive is officially up to 5.2 ounces! I swear, that homemade puppy formula is a complete miracle. She has also started to nurse more, adding to the plumpness. Bubbles is not creating a ton of milk but she is producing and Olive is doing her best to partake. She is a gooey mess actually – plump and gooey. Ok, and we need to add active!

At the two week mark, her eyes are open and she is totally exploring her world. Constantly on the move, she be-bops around the whelping box every chance she can get. Bubbles a fantastic mom, rarely leaving Olive’s side. But when she does, Olive can be found at the edge of the whelping box waiting for her mommy to return.

Olive is 1 Week Old

Yes, Bubbles’ sweet baby girl has a name – She was actually named within minutes of her arrival. You see, a very special friend and her mom were there for the entire whelping via FaceTime. The stress brought on by the anticipation of a singleton was calmed by the giggles and smiles and for that I will be forever grateful. So to commemorate the momentous occasion, I asked mom what her favorite cocktail was. “A martini…with extra olives” You guessed it. That’s our latest addition’s name!

And today she turned one week old. She is officially over her birth weight – Weighing in at 4.2 ounces. YAHOO!!! We are still bottle feeding our homemade formula and Bubbles is still taking care of all other puppy rearing needs – Thank goodness!!

She’s A Thief

My late night/early morning feedings are usually eventless and boring. Tonight I had to run back downstairs afterI fed the pup to grab a new doggy bed for the whelping box and when I came back, I found Bubbles in a rather fidgety state.

That’s when I realized that our little pistol waited until I left, jumped out of the whelping box and up onto the couch. She then grabbed the bottle with formula and carried it back into the helping box with her. I am not sure if that was her sign to me that her pup wasn’t quite done or if she wanted her are. I assume it was the latter.
