Today we did a bit of bait training in the backyard. I have found that the RedBarn Beef Roll does WONDERS in keeping their attention and making them want more. Here I was using it as a topper put on weight! I didn’t realize I had such a Goldmine!

Georgie and TIno did fabulous with their training, each remaining focused on me for the majoring of their training. Now when it was time to do the girls everything changed – and I couldn’t help but laugh!

I wanted to work with Stella one-on-one but she was not going to have it. She just wanted the food – Eating my entire stash! I sent my husband into the house to bring me back out some bait and that is when Blue snuck out into the backyard with him. Apparently having competition helped Stella focus on me and what we were trying to train her on. But that also meant when we decided it was time to treat the girls Blue was working her way into finding a chance to get more food! Pawing at the sandwich bag filled with bait was all it took. Bait went EVERYWHERE! We scrambled to pick it up so the girls didn’t eat at all. Clearly there were remnants because they decided to roll in them! Now we have two girls this smell like beef!

Unplanned Food Change

So the Pet Supplies Plus by my house that I have been getting my dog food from is changing hands, causing a delay in shipments. As happy as I am to have a place to get my Merrick food that is so close, I am not happy about my naive dependency. You see, I ran out the day I drove up to pick up more and to my surprise, they did not have any Merrick in stock. I hated the idea of having to get any bellies upset so I asked an employee for some advice on what to do next. That’s when he suggested Whole Earth Farms. They ARE Merrick, it’s just their cost-conscious brand. Still made int he USA. Still grain free.

So we are three weeks into the change and there were no issues at all. I have noticed they actually eat less but with a lot of anticipation. I don’t if that means they love it but are getting fuller on this brand or not but their stools are perfect and not smelly at all. Using both the beef/pork and the chicken mixed I got both bags for around $80.00 – that’s a $40.00 saving too! I can tell you that the gas that seems to freely seep from the Pugs has been cut in half. I am not too sure if it is the change in food or the putting back of chicken into the diet but we are loving the change!

TDay Treats

As we do every year, the Figgy Clan cuddled up on then couch to watch the National Dog Show while we waited for our scrumptious Turkey Din-Din to finish cooking. Rooting for the Chihuahuas’ will never end, even though in all of our years of watching they have never placed 🙁 It was exciting to see Rufus the Pug get pulled though! VERY exciting! Especially since we were just in the ring with him not too long ago!

And while gorged ourselves on Turkey and all the fixings the dogs devoured their special holiday treat – Merrick’s Thanksgiving Day Dinner. Oh my word – they LOVED IT!!!! I totally recommend it for all you pet lovers out there. Our crew literally licked their chops and begged for more!

Plumpin Up

The puppies are 5 weeks old today and thanks to the ubermilk that Barbie produces AND the moist food that that have been gobbling down for the last week and a half, they have plumbed up quite nicely. This is a rather playful litter and to keep those sugar drops from happening, keeping them fed is the key.

Moist food meals twice a day and free-feed kibble has allow for Barbie to spend the majority of the afternoon outside of the pen. She pops in for periodic feedings and then begs to come out al chill on the couch. This is quite the content litter – Barbie has down an amazing job!
