She brought back today today sporting the most adorable shirt ever! bitches love him! Sporting the most adorable shirt ever! Bitches Love Him! Clearly he’s got his work cut out for him in the breeding department!

But when we woke this morning to Milly panting up a storm so I knew they were coming today! To the whelping box we went AGAIN and Milly panted and paced and dug and then…. she whined.

She NEVER whines! Ever! She’s a silent whelper!!! And this was not her first time. We were waiting over 4 hours and still no puppy – Totally unlike her. I knew we had a problem! Off to Dr. Rodgers in Lakeland we were headed!!!!

The drive was rather uneventful – My co-pilot was a real trooper. Keeping herself calm and staying focused the the task at hand. I swear she knew I was on a mission helper – I could see it in her eyes!

Dr. Rodgers was amazing, AS ALWAYS and got her right into surgery. We had 6 puppies in there but the boy that was stuck didn’t make it. He was positioned across the birth canal, blocking the way for all of the others, hence…. no progress on the whelping and lots of whining!!!

We had five happy and healthy puppies in shades of black to blue. Two girls and three boys. Milly took right to them, even while coming to from her anesthesia! Man oh man is she an amazing mother!!! And we have ourselves a stunning litter of puppies!

As we drove home and I got them all settled I thought long and hard about this whole whelp watch. Two fulls days waiting for their dramatic arrival -Same way I come into the world! An entire week early for me though! So with that said, these puppies were being named after birthday cocktails! Decision made!!!

I mean in a BREEDING YAHOOOOO!!!

February Milly-Tino Bey Beys!

First, this would be Margie’s last breeding and then she will retire with us permanently. I’m very excited to see what she produces. She’ll be going back to Rayna next week for her breeding.

Millie will be bred to Tino! This will be his first breeding and potentially her last! This will be a line breeding her paternal side and I am excited to see what the results are. Fingers crossed everyone!!!!!

Mr. Georgie was not cooperating. Or at least his urges weren’t. Rita tried for quite a while to collect from him and it just was not going to happen. Talk about blue balls? Poor little guy! At this point we were left with a choice. Skip the breeding or try another male. This is going to be KC’s last season. She’s getting up in age and I do not want put her through the hormones anymore. This was her day 10 – the day to start the breeding!! Rita suggested we go with Patriot Eddie’s father and Tino’s grandfather. It would it would not bring in the newer stuff so. That is what Georgie brings. I hemmed and hawed but finally to find decided to go for it. I figured I would do the one insemination and let fate make the decisions for me. If we artificially inseminated with Georgie I would come back in two days for a second breeding. All it really takes is one so this is where fate had to take over. We shall see if we have a litter around the first of the year.

I can say it was kind of funny to watch KC while she was being inseminated. She kept looking over at Georgie the entire time. He looked defeated and she looked disappointed. Like “Dude, what is up?”

So you understand more about the importance of health testing and then having the results certified, let me explain….

Many breeding programs are starting to health test the three CCA suggested tests; Hearts, Patellas and Eyes. These exams can cost about $45-50.00, per test, per year, per dog. Many people stop there an there is nothing wrong with that. Knowing that the dogs in your program are cleared is a huge step in making sure the puppies that you produce are from parents that are free from these genetic issues. Taking it a step further is registering the results with CHIC. Documenting and certifying the results require identification – in our case, a microchip –  and then additional fees for the three separate test results. That adds another $65/85.00 per dog. These fees add up quickly but also add to the investment we have made into our program. That investment we can then and down to our future puppies and or course, their future forever families!
