So when the new forever family to one of our adults or puppies needs a dog sitter, darn tootin’ we will say yes. Mr Teddy is here for the weekend and it took a grand total of about 3 minutes for him to get right back into his Teddy groove here. Scaling the back of the couch, strutting around the kitchen and soaking up the sun the pours in from the back window.

On a side note, I love the adorable grooming cut that he is sporting. I swear looks like a a little long legged Pomeranian!

As we close in on the end of the year, I thought it would be a nice time to share some of the photos I have received with updates over the year. Teddy has only moved to his new throne a few weeks ago but his photo updates have made my month so of course I had to share those with you.

A few others I thought you might like to see is KC’s litter mates, Kiki and Kahula. Both are doing FABULOUS and are beyond loved with their new forever families. Of course, we also have a photo of Huggie to share. He is the king of his castle with Kiki being the queen – adorable as ever and loved unconditionally.

Another exciting update is that of Chanel who is Bubble’s sister. She didn’t get that much bigger after she let but she surly got her beautiful adult coat to come in – STUNNING!!!!

As I explained before, the decision to retire Teddy was far from an easy one. He has brought so many amazing things to your family and our program. The honor and pride in being gifted such an amazing dog is immense and knowing that our program is based on him is, well, THE BEST! He is now almost 9 years old, a finished champion and the proud poppa to several dogs in the ring – He has earned the chance to retire and be the end-all-be-all to his own end-all-be-all.

In addition to his natural ability to just show himself in the dog show ring, he is the most social Chihuahua I have ever met without being overbearing (you all have met one of THOSE Chihuahuas!) He is also a very loyal dog, loving his “person” with all of his heart and soul. He loves to cuddle up simply BE with that person and is at his happiest when he knows he is loved. So when I heard about Erica, I knew we found his, as well as HER, forever favorite friend.

She was scared emotionally by a larger breed dog that turned. She so loves dogs but he fears and anxiety were keeping her from trying to bring a nosher dog into her home. When her mother heard about us looking for a new forever home for Teddy and of course, his tiny size and amazing traits, a surprise trial period was set up. Well I am here to tell you that the tears if her eyes and the almost instant attachment that Ted showed toward her told me there was no trial needed. It was amazing to watch. He never even looked back when they left. He Never Looked Back! He knew – She knew – I AM SO HAPPY!!!

A day we have been planning for and anticipating for quite some time now has finally come and the outcome was quite amazing! First, the neutering of Teddy has been in the works for quite some time now. Holding him back from the most recent batch of girls in season was no easy task and finding a home that was willing to take on and love an older male than might mark was more difficult. Everything finally came together and that perfect home found us. Closing this chapter in our lives was a very difficult one to make, but for Teddy to get the life he has earned and beyond deserves, today had to come.

Father and Son did superbly with the surgery, handling the removal of their manhood with ease. Teddy was right back to his happy-go-lucky self around 30 minutes after his procedure while Stoli was a bit more knocked out for quite a bit longer than his good ol’ dad. He has reach the 7month mark and with all of the female hormones around here we want to make sure he doesn’t start lifting when he goes to his new forever home.

Tipsy came along for the adventure as well. Yes, we are still working on the whole socialization thing but she also needed her Rabies vaccine so she kept me and doc’s crew of Chihuahuas company while we waited for the boys to come out of recovery. She wants too keen on the whole “other dogs in the room” thing so she begged to get up most of the time. Go figure!

The swelling in his jaw is going down and things are a lot less painful for the little guy. Back to his hovering-self, he is my shadow with a smile and a poodle cut on the front. They had to shave both legs to get the IV in and until the fur grows back in, he will be my title Chi-poo!
The post Our Chi-Poooooo first appeared on Figgy's Chihuahuas AKC Show Breeder/Handler in Florida.

Teddy is NOT liking the new diet but is tolerating the change. He gets a very special, heated plate of moist food three times a day while his jaw is healing and I can tell you that he wants that kibble SO bad. I know there is still pain because he usually walks around with a mush mustache until I wipe if off for him. Licking off the remnants isn’t happening just yet. But other than that, he is healing quite nicely and is back to tail wagging each time he greets you. He is back to is happy self which make s me VERY happy!
The post Mush Mouth first appeared on Figgy's Chihuahuas AKC Show Breeder/Handler in Florida.

It is time for Teddy’s next dental and we brought Smoochie along to get her rabies vaccine. Our day started out as plan but didn’t end that way. It was quite the adventure for all of us!

It all started with Teddy and his dental cleaning. His two remaining bottom teeth – his two canines – Had To Go! They were loose and had to be pulled. Unfortunately his jaw was already compromised. The loss of bone from periodontal decease along with old age made his bottom jaw very loose and the odds of his jaw breaking during the procedure was extremely high. A choice had to be made and I went with the decision to pull. Yes, the jaw bike. But Doc is the man! He wired it closed and now there is no wiggling at all! A diet of soupy, moist food and a few days of pain meds are in this guy’s future. We all feel so bad about the pain the Tedstier is going to feel once these meds wear off but in the long run, he will be MUCH better off for it. Those teeth were bad and I am sure eating was a very painful experience. That pain will be gone! And he will be so much happier in the long run!

Then came Smoochie. She may have come in for a poke but she left with a pull – two pulls to be exact. She had two retained upper canines and now was the time to pull them, to give room for her adult teeth to come in without issue. With Chihuahuas, cleaning their teeth is a must. Their mouths are so small that food and other particles get trapped between the teeth and then the problems grow. Brushing them daily is ideal and keeping them on dry food is the best. Removing retained puppy teeth is the only choice to prevent any possible issues in the future. Good heath is what we all want right? That is less offensive doggy kisses.
