Rita and I did evaluations back when they were 5 weeks old. I did them again at 8 weeks of age (the ideal age per The Hasting’s Approach) Both evaluations came to the same results. So when I pulled the puppies out for Darius to do his things, it caught the attention of several, all coming to the same conclusion.

Ty and Milly are the male and female picks of the litter. Since we retired Teddy the ideal of holding a male back is in he forefront and of course, Milly will also remain as a potentially future champion and future mommy in our program. I am a very visual person and no matter how many books I read, I need the facts pointed out to me. There is no perfect dog and I know the faults that I see in the puppies – they each have their own – but having it explained in detail, with suggestions in how to correct tor at the least, improve those imperfections  – PRICELESS! Thank you so much Darius and Lana! Your advice was perfect! I need to work on strengthening the rear on Ty and to keep an eye on Milly’s puppy chub.

Sweetie was third in the pick from the total litter of six and since she knows the lines inside and out, Rita selected her to add to her program! Her main “fault” was her self coloring and lack or typey headpiece. Very easy to work with when you have wonderful dog to pair her with and yes, even with those faults, she is very finish-able. I am so thrilled to be able to produce something for her to bring back into her amazing program!

If all went as planned, we too will have puppies in mid-January. That means a litter of Long Coat Chihuahuas as well as a litter of Pugs will help us kick off the year 2015! YAHOOO!!!!

When we got the call that week that Ozzie was a little TOO interested in The Bubs we knew it had to be that time. Ohhhh yes! She is in season! And the idea to line breed her like we did her mom was the other plan. Tiger came home with us yesterday to make that line breeding happen. He is a grandson of Teddy and is also related to Eddie on his mother’s side. With that said, if all of the stars align we could have some VERY nice pups to help ring in the new year. We had our first official tie this afternoon, putting us on Whelp Watch in mid-January. Tiger- Ur Da Man!

In addition to earning the spoils, she is also going back home with Rita at Cavahua Chihuahuas. With Teddy being her daddy, and of course, her and Eddie producing such a structurally sound puppy in Spike, Treasure is going back to help her expand her own program. So very cool! We will miss her terribly, but knowing we get to see her often warms the heart!

As a side note, I have to comment on how bewildered Spike was with all of his mommy’s antics before she got her blow-dry treatment. Running around the living room, rubbing against furniture and splashing water with every step. I am here to tell you Spike – YOU’RE NEXT!

My afternoon started out with a visit to the precious Japanese Chins I saw last month. I swear, the more I see them the more that I fall head over heels. Just look at them! Those faces! I wanna eat um up! The envy I have Roxanne is as green as ever. I would never be able to let any of them go!

After our meeting, I stopped by at Rita’s to check out her adorable 10 week old Chihuahuas. I have enjoyed the weekly photo updates but to finally see them all in person was a real treat. This is the photo I snapped as I whistled to get their attention after our play session – SO CUTE!

I have come to the conclusion that Dream needs some more time to mature and for her chest to pop before we revisit bringing her back into the show ring. She just needs more time to grow and for training too. Getting her more comfortable on the lead in the show environment is a must. I think we need to give her another year. In the meantime, she is going back to Rita’s to be loved and spoiled.

Now Dream? That was another story. When we got to the show location, my first goal was to get her out and onto the lead. Yes, she statued for the first 10 minutes or so, but soon, she was walking! It took another dog to inspire her to getup off her butt and I kept her walking right through to our ring time of 1:45 pm. But the moment I placed her onto the mat in the ring, WHAMO! She was a deer in headlights. We made it to the first turn and she wasn’t about to take another step. So as I jokingly predicated, I carried her the rest of the way. She has her first 2nd place ribbon and her first ring experience that I insisted to make a positive one in the end. One more day to go – and a lot more lead training are in my future!

There was a lot more excitement today though. Rita with Cavahua Chihuahuas and I are staying up here in Elkton for the weekend and she cleaned house! Her Grand Champion, Fanny as well as her up and coming long coats, Chris and Pixie Dust are here as well. Chris took Winners Dog and Pixie Dust took reserve to Winner’s Bitch. With Fanny going in for Best of Variety, I got to handle Chris and he took not only Best of Winners but also Best of Breed! Wooo Hooooo! Rita moved onto groups with Chris this afternoon but he unfortunately didn’t make that cut. No matter how he faired in groups, the boy has more points to add to his name and is that much closer to his champion title!
