Another exciting day for this litter. We drove out to Rita’s tonight bring Sandy for her to evaluate. This was her pick of the litter, with her reminding her so much of her sweet Fanny. It didn’t take long for Rita to fall and fall HARD – Her new name is Kisses (You can bet I am saving Sandy’s name for a future pup). I’m so excited that she will be staying around so I can watch her grow and mature and of course be there to root her on as she excels in Rita’s program.

While I was there this evening rediscovering enough to give the next set of vaccines to the remaining pups (sometime I am just too squeamish to do on my own) and I also got me some Eddie time! Being that he is the grandfather to this litter, I see so much of him but in the puppies too. He is such a sweet boy and I was so honored to have in a short period of time that we did. He is a great addition to my program and I’m honored to continue his legacy.

Georgie is the Best!

This young whippersnapper has the best temperament we have ever produced in a male. He loves every human he meets and obviously every dog too. He has been roommates with two visiting dogs in the last month and he has bonded so awesomely with both without issue.

I found Georgie and Eddie napping together on the rug in the sun today. Too sweet to not take note and so lucky that have such an amazing dog in our crew.

Picked Right Up

Eddie picked right up where he left off from when he lived here, loving life on the couch, in the pack and running the yard. We have also been conditioning him for life in the ring again to see if he will work as Alexis’ Juniors dog. So far he is a bit too soft with a tail almost wrapped under his belly the moment the lead is slipped on. We are working daily with refresher lead training. In the mean time, he sure is a sweetie pie!

Look What Santa Brought!

Holy Cow! What a morning! It all technically started last night but still, it’s an amazing story filled with an entire litter of white puppies….

Barbie began to look very uncomfy while we were all on the couch watching TV last night. It was about 9 pm and she began to nest into the pillows and blankets. It the past, she has nested two DAYS before she whelped so we weren’t all that anxious to get her upstairs because she would tell us when she is ready. We did joke about how it sure would be funny if the puppies came on Christmas morning. Just in case, the decision was made for Barbie and I to sleep in the guest/whelping room. We turned in around 10 pm, assuming I would wake in the morning to begin our holiday gift opening celebration.

It was at 3:00 am that I woke to sounds of a puppy being born! Yessiree, my free-whelping wonder mommy brought her first little boy into the world all on her own, leaving no mess beyond the fluids on the towels. She’s so good! Rather whiny and still very wet and chilled, I pulled him out of the whelping box to warm him while she pushed puppy number two into the world. Puppy number two – our first girl – arrived at 3:05 am, weighing in at 4 1/4 ounces, almost one full ounce larger than her older brother. My timing was clearly perfect because the next hour went by soon fast!

The rest time between pushes was rather slim because at 3:33 the second boy (both weighing 3 1/2 ounces) and third puppy arrived with NO breaking in the pushing. Seriously, he and the next puppy arrived 1 minute apart with both placentas still inside while both puppies were out. Crazy!!! The fourth puppy was our second girl and the tiniest of the litter. She weighed in at 2 3/4 ounces and so far, is also the loudest!

The theme of this litter is clearly pairs because the next longest break was after the fourth puppy arrived. After 20 minutes of time spent tending to and nursing the four welcomed puppies, the pushing kicked into gear and the next puppy arrived at 4:01 am. Our third boy, also weighing in at 3 1/2 ounces and also creamy white! The sixth and final puppy, our fourth boy is the longest baked and largest pup in the litter, weighing is at 4 1/2 ounces ending our early morning whelping at 4:11am.

All six arrived in just over and hour and mom and pups are doing AWESOME, all making for a majorly memorable Christmas. Since I am up and awake so early, I might as well head downstairs and get gifts under the tree and the stockings ready. Then of course, research some really cool Christmas Cocktail Recipes!!!

Bye Bye Love

The deed as been done – MANY times – And we will be expecting puppies the week of Christmas! Quite the way to Ring OUT the year aye? I know we are excited! This is an amazing pairing. Eddie and Barbie compliment each other in so many ways and have honestly bonded big time. We had to drive out and bring Eddie home today and I swear I saw a tear come to his eye 😉

Gettin’ The Job Done

As much as we love Teddy’s temperament, in the three breeding we have used him for, we haven’t reproduced it – but we HAVE reproduced his lack of angulation. Clearly some genes are stronger than others, inspiring us step outside the box a bit – but not TOO far! Eddie’s great-grandfather is K-Cey, Teddy’s very own father. With Three Teddy daughters in our program, we didn’t want a complete out cross by bringing a completely unrelated dog into the mix. Eddie goes out far enough to come back in nicely if we produce a nice, show quality male.

So the decision to breed our now VERY ripe and ready Barbie to Eddie. And he has very happily done the job like the champ that he is since he arrived on Sunday. We can continue to have his way with his woman for another 20 days! Eddie is the man!

Found Them Both!

And I am not just talking both of his eyes – Which opened back on the 22nd, giving him access to a whole new world! He is three weeks old today and weighing in at 1 pound and 1/2 of an ounce. And I am also proud to announce we have picked out a name for him! Still a chocolate wonder, his official name is Figgy’s Special Snickers Spiked Coco and we are going to call him Spike. He looks like a Spike doesn’t he?

Dog Swap

Rita and I have been going back and forth with what to do with Eddie. When he came to live with us, it was to get him socialized and into the ring. He did fabulous at his first show back in November of last year but we all noticed something up with his rear and a slightly roached back. With a long heat season and a coat blowing a few months after he arrived, we then worked putting weight on him, gaining muscle and growing out his coat. The roachy appearance disappeared, he loved every stranger, his coat was lush and full – but his back end still seemed off. With me focusing on showing KC and my daughter with Teddy, I didn’t know when I could get Eddie back into the ring. The decision was made for him to go back to Rita for her to give home a go.

Last night at our club meeting, we did a doggy swap – Eddie went back to Rita’s and Dream came back to us. She is a such a lover-girl and my daughter adores her. She just may live her live out here in our laps, giving as many kisses as she wishes!

Red Hot and RAIN

Every Fourth of July, our poor dogs are put through two days of nerve-wracking hell – With the Red, Hot and Boom firework celebration held on the 3rd and then the normal 4th of July parties in the neighborhood. Dude and Cosmo are normally our completely freaked out canines and we anticipate their fears every year. This year, I assumed the huge celebration would be canceled due to the thunderstorms and rain but when the skies cleared 20 minutes after the original start time, the fireworks erupted and calming had to begin.

We actually took Kiki upstairs and allow all of the dogs into the living room with us to watch a movie with the volume turned up high. We learned that tick a few years ago, to help drown out the booms. Cosmos and Dude were actually fine. It was Eddie who was a it panicked. He paced and panted during the entire 32 minute show. Poor guy!

Off The Bench

We benched Eddie from shows after his last entries because he had blown his coat, leaving him looking rather lackluster. He also had lost weight from the girls being in heat. All combined, his topline looked off and his gait was funky – BENCHED!

I have been using the Isles of Dogs product line to kick start and promote his coat growth and added an additional feeding to his daily schedule – Lunch consists of cooked rice and chicken mixed with his kibble. Oh yeah! He beefed up and is back to his fighting weight! With all of that being said, I wish I had entered him for the show this weekend. I am taking him off the bench and hope to get him back in the ring this Spring.
