Adorable Update Photo

I received this photo in an update email and it was just too adorable not to share. Especially for those of you that followed along The Burrito’s journey while he was here with us. You got it! The dog to the left in this photo is the very one and only Burrito! (the one to the right is Chicatoo) Hasn’t he grown into a smashing young man pup? All of those hours spent bottle feeding him and whelping box swapping truly paid off. You’d never guess he was as tiny and scrawny as he was the day he came here. Between the Rane and Colada – They umphed him up for...

Eval Day

Eval Day

When breeding for show potential puppies, it is always best to get the opinion of an unbiased set of eyes and today was one of those evaluation days. My gut feelings have been growing for the past few months, all building up for this afternoon and I can proudly announce my gut was right! The good, the bad and the in-between. When Karen’s amazing Chica produced her last litter, the prayers were for an amazing female to continue her amazing reign. Unfortunately, it was only The Burrito, the male puppy that we fostered for his first six weeks. When we were blessed to have Chicatoo join our crew, the honor was huge. Since Chica will no longer be whelping, I felt the...

Some Much Going On Here!

Some Much Going On Here!

Perhaps with all of the rain we got over the weekend has give our dogs cabin fever – Or perhaps all of the puppy/hormonal drama has made them look at each other in different ways but man oh man, the Chihuahuas in our house have been running around non-stop today! This photo kinda-sorta captured what I witnessed but it will definitely need some further details…. Rane seems to have woken this morning realizing she really is NOT a mommy. Her puppy is gone, Colada’s puppies teeth hurt on her nippies and are NOT her responsibility. The Burrito has been out of sight and clearly, now, out of mind. She has reverted to a pup herself and is now a constant play...

The Yard Guards

The Yard Guards

A select few of our dogs think they are German Shepards when it comes to protecting our backyard. To a tiny breed dog, our 8′ privacy fence must look like a high-rise building and the fact that the kids that are playing on the other side of it can be heard as clear as day do NOT make our yard protectors very comfortable. The moment we open up the back door to let them outside, Dude, Blue, Chicatoo, Buddy  and Cosmo run to the high part of our yard – The far right corner by the huge Oak tree. They stand there, hairs on the back of their neck erect, and bark off warnings to the voices. They are as predicable as my kids and their inability to pick up their...

That’s Ma Sis

That’s Ma Sis

Ace has been in with the girls for a full week now and he is totally sportin’ that “all that” attitude. Chicatoo is emitting some hormonal aromas in addition to Colada and has full access to both. His studly  ‘tude isn’t intolerable – He is taking it all in stride. With Rane being out of her heat, she has a choice as to which group she wants to be with. Throughout the day, she moves between the boys and puppies in the living room the love nest in the kitchen. This afternoon, she spent a lot of time in the kitchen, soaking up the sun in the dog beds. After yet another round with Colada, Ace walked on over and nestled up with Rane for...

Alpha Power!

Alpha Power!

As Baby enters the end of her heat, Colada is ripe and Chicatoo is is being pulled in. Of the three of the girls, Baby is our alpha female and Chicatoo is a very VERY close second. If Baby were not here, Chicatoo would rule the roost – FOR SURE!!! Even though Baby is no longer standing, she insists on remaining in the kitchen with the other girls, as not to allow her power to be taken over by Chicatoo. Poor Colada is in the middle of the two and their power struggles. It’s not that she isn’t enjoying the extra attention though. Constant wrestling, napping or humping...

Dewey’s Horny Googly Eyes

The boys are intranced with the smells of ripe female heat-age! Baby is approaching the tail end of her standing heat as Rane is about to enter hers! I expect her to be at the height of her standing heat by the weekend. Of course, it also appears as though Colada may be thrown in and we are still watching Chicatoo. She looks swollen but she hasn’t attracted the  attention of any of the boys.

Rane Passed With Flying Colors!

First off, HAPPY EASTER!!! We have had out of town family here for the holiday, keeping us all, human and dog alike, very busy. A lot of activity for our anxious little Rane, and a lot of new people. She barked at our guests the first two days but that quickly subsided on the third. Then today, with so many coming and going and the front door being left open multiple times, I just HAD to snap a photo of Rane’s major accomplishment. She is in the Dewey Door Darting Club. Chicatoo, Rane, Ace and Dewey can all squeeze their bodies through the bars on our baby gates to run out and greet guests that come to our door. But with the front door left open as guests were...

New Chihuahua Friends Chicatoo?

New Chihuahua Friends Chicatoo?

My daughter had a few friends over and they are all still at the “sleeping with their favorite stuffed animal” stage. Ironically, they all find their Chihuahua Webkinz their favorite sleeping pals and Chicatoo clearly recognized the resemblance. The White Terrier Webkinz she barked are fiercely but the Chihuahua ones? She wagged her tail and begged them to play!  And then she seemed to thank the girls for bringing new friends for her to play with! Too funny to not...
