How we feed our Chihuahuas and what dog food we use
We received this amazing holiday gift today from my mom and I honestly have never seen the dogs go this nuts over any package the UPS man delivers – Even when their doggy treats arrive! A dry ice encased box of lobster, shrimp and crab is what got all of their tails a waggin and I swear if they could have gotten to the contents they would have devoured it all, frozen or not. Not too sure if any of them have seafood allergies but in case you wondered, dogs can eat seafood, in moderation. In our case, of crew won’t be given the chance to try it, this is going to me our Christmas...
Read MoreKaren came by to visit with The Burrito . He will be two weeks old tomorrow and since his second day here, he has consistently gain at least 1/4 of a ounce each day. He is up to three different moms and we are hoping to introduce him to his fourth tomorrow. Now that Ginny has settled in nicely with her litter, and since her pups are closer in age to him than Colada’s, the rotation will include Ginny and Rane for a couple days. If all goes as planned, we will leave him with Ginny’s litter for the next week and a half. By his fourth week, he should be supplementing with moist much instead of the homemade formula. Until then, we will keep up with the...
Read MoreA full 24 hours of Rane and her new baby and from almost second one, she claimed him as her own. Her instincts kicked into gear immediately as she cuddled around him to keep him warm, nurse and of course, clean his tooshie. She has refused to part from him, obviously knowing he is not a 5 week old pup like the one she lost, but a new born one. I think we all assumed that with a mere 18 hours without a puppy nursing would not hinder continue milk production. If anything, I figured the newborn’s drive would bring on milk gushes! Tonight while checking in on them I found her to be completely dry. Quick thinking and a bit of prep work should even this all out. I put...
Read MoreWe have been feeding the puppies their Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy Food in their pen for the last five weeks. Keeping the puppy food away from the adults is one of the reasons they are fed in there. (Puppy food is a huge treat that our dogs will do anything to get at). The other reason is because of their tiny size, I free feed them. Our adults are fed on a schedule. Using a puppy feeding dish, we keep it filled with food, designating it as the “kid’s table” since they all can gather around it and eat together. Tonight as we fed the adults, the puppies were out of the pen for one of their play sessions and they happened to hear the kibble hitting the...
Read MoreI normally take our weekly photos in the afternoon so that I can get the best natural light. Mother Nature was not on my side today and a photo session in simply not in the cards. We will try again tomorrow. But since I had the camera out and ready, I couldn’t help but capture a more candid 7 week moment. Even though the puppies are weaned and eating their puppy kibble, when given a chance to nurse, they WILL and DO take full advantage. While out for a play session this afternoon, they all ran to Capri, the closest bag of juice. Both moms are very patient and deal with their sharp puppy teeth for these quick snacks but neither will lay down for them to nurse...
Read MoreWhile at Target today, I happened to notice on an end-cap that their square shaped melamine dishes were on sale. These little RE (Room Essentials) dipping bowls are the perfect size to feed Chihuahuas and at their sale price, I just had to pick up enough for our crew! Normally 9.99 for a set of 4, they were marked to 3.99 a set! Run to your Target and pick out some of the fun colors while they are still...
Read MoreWhen puppies start mouthing pieces of their mommy’s dog food, you know it is time! Last night, I saw Alabazam and DivaLicious mowing away on some of the kibble so the plan for today was to introduce them to some moist food. I have changed to Eukanuba Small Breed (and Small Breed Puppy) mixed with BilJac. The Small Breed Puppy kibble is soft enough for the puppies to eat a few pieces here and there. But the Eukanuba canned food was DEVOURED! I put Frisco in for the feast as well and he too enjoyed the...
Read MoreThe corn has been a huge hit this weekend! So much so that the leftovers in the refrigerator were drug out during our midnight movie marathon. (This camping trip we watched Gulliver’s Travels) The smell of the corn was just a bit too much for Capri to bare and right up onto my bed she went. Within a snap second, she nabbed a cob off my plate and went to town. She is eating for 20! Ok, ok, more like six – But still! Bag of Juice is hungry and corn on the cob did the...
Read MoreWe are spending the weekend at Blue Springs State Park in Orange City and we brought along a bucket full of our family’s favorite summer treat – Corn on the cob! There is nothing like fresh corn to help you celebrate the fun of summer. Since the temperatures are equivalent to those in July and August, corn HAD to be enjoyed this weekend! As we shucked, Dude took quick notice and couldn’t help but wait for even the smallest of pieces to fall. And yes, there was a bit of begging witnessed after the corn was exposed from the husks. If I spoke dog, I would tell him there will be enough for him and all of the others to snack on for the next 2 days! This...
