Can You Spot Him?

The sofa table behind my couch was claimed a very long time ago by Dude. Often times, he would lay on the table to have the best look-out spot. I am not sure if his age is keeping him from jumping up from the couch to the table or if the house’s youngest stud muffin has dethroned him, but the table has a new claimant. Can you see Huggie? It’s like a Where’s Waldo picture now isn’t it? Huggie has claimed the spot right beside the lamp but he kicked it up a notch. From that very spot he can peek into the kitchen, see the entire living room and – Thanks to his tiny size – Actually HIDE behind the...

Ginny Is Back

I headed out to pick Ginny up from Sandy’s today and I am proud to announce, she was a fantastic girl during her stay. Her laid back temperament was definitely witnessed but so was her princess status! Around here, she has the tendency to show her spoiled ways when things aren’t to her liking. Specifically when it comes to the weather! When it happens to be raining or if the temps drops below 60, she dare not step out past the deck off the back of our house during potty breaks. The thought of stepping into mud, no matter what the temperature, is simply beneath her! With the scattered storms we have had during the last few days, this princess side was...

The Sugar Dance

The Sugar Dance

The day that Sugar came home with me, I visited for a little bit with her daddy, Goody. Outside of his amazing good looks and structure, there is one trait that stood out immediately. It was the fancy dance that he performed when he was excited. Standing up on his hind legs, waving his front in the air and giddy with joy. This is exactly how I am greeted by Sugar every morning and every time I walk into the room. Funny thing about genetics – We pray for structure and bites and heads and temperaments. I will mark with genetic trait as a total bonus because it is totally...

Sugar Booger

With all of the coming and going we have been doing lately, Sugar has had a lot of new experiences since she came to live with us. I thought it was time to share her progress in Figgy Land and on our show ring training. Sugar’s super sweet and social temperament has helped her blend right into our pack and into our family. I have spent the last week allowing her to bond with me and the results could never be more perfect. She is very attentive to my every move and eager to please. My goal for the next two weeks is to walk her on her lead and practice on the stacking table five minutes a day. I will be sure to report her...

Transition Complete

The plan has worked perfectly! Transitioning Rane into a new home this past weekend had a few minor bumps but nothing that stopped our plans. She was leery of the men in their family at first. This is exactly how she reacted when we brought her here back in February. That took us the longest but once she began to seek out my husband’s lap and cuddled with him, we knew with time and more confidence, the transition to a pet home could happen. With all of the success this weekend, I really thought once she got home with them, it would take a week or so for her to open up to all of her new forever family members. On the drive home from the campground I received a text...

The Transition

We started transitioning Rane by having her spend the afternoon with her new forever family today. She was a bit already at first while walking with them on her leash but once I picked her so so they could hold her, she relaxed and enjoyed herself. The plan is to have her back in our camper for tonight but then back with them for the entire day tomorrow, and hopefully the entire night too! So far so...

Campground Socialization

Campground Socialization

Socialization is extremely important when it comes to a toy, companion breed. There is nothing worse than a 5 pound dog with a Napoleon complex! We are using this camping trip as a way to provide some socialization to two of our unique cases. Dude barks at anything and everything. A bag floating in the wind to the huge golden Labrador that is in the campsite two down from ours. While exploring the Rodman Dam this morning, of course, he had to be attached to his favorite human! All went very well on our adventure until a young man and his Boxer came to the spillway to fish. Of course, Dude the Chihuahua bark to get the attention of a dog 10 times larger than him! Dude...

The Real Fun Begins

I have been having so much fun watching this litter grow. They are our final litter of puppies for the year – Actually, for quite a while – So I am watching them that much more to soak it all in. They have finally reached the fun stage of their development and I so love this part. After the 4 week mark, we really get to see their temperaments and of the five pups, Frenzy is the first to explore. Scnappster is the most laid-back and Quick is actually rather. He is the first to the food bowl at least! Tanq is very easy going while Maui Wowie is a combination of all – Confident, playful and independent....

Socialization A Plenty

Socialization A Plenty

With only five dogs with us on this trip, we have been able to spend a lot more time walking them throughout the park today. Since we are still working on socializing Rane, we brought her along and it has truly paid off. We also got to test out my new harness dress design – Don’t’ ya just love the whole two birds one stone thing? Rane walked from edge to edge of the park with no problem or panic. She was approached by other dogs – Some 100 times bigger than her – and not once did she hide or wrap herself around my legs. I cannot say she walked boldly, but she walked and was approached by complete strangers without issue! YAHOO!!! Of...
