The pups are back to their daily schedule here at our house and apparently, they learned a few new tricks while we were gone. If you close the door to the crate, you gain more access to the food bowl and Peanut has the skill mastered. This is something I would expect to see from Gator, who is a full month older. At 9 weeks old, Ginny’s puppies have shown us that they are very smart and advanced for their age. I do truly believe that Gator and his antics have rubbed off. Since we are trying to keep up with his conformation training, keeping him in the puppy pen while we still have little ones under foot has paid off in more ways than...
Read MoreThe plan has worked perfectly! Transitioning Rane into a new home this past weekend had a few minor bumps but nothing that stopped our plans. She was leery of the men in their family at first. This is exactly how she reacted when we brought her here back in February. That took us the longest but once she began to seek out my husband’s lap and cuddled with him, we knew with time and more confidence, the transition to a pet home could happen. With all of the success this weekend, I really thought once she got home with them, it would take a week or so for her to open up to all of her new forever family members. On the drive home from the campground I received a text...
Read MoreThe two shadows (Dude and Dewey) begged to be out with us humans tonight as we all gathered for our final campfire of the trip. Dude’s love of the doggie pillow inspired us to place it beside the fire for him to lay on, while Dewey still insisted on being in my lap. The rest of the dogs lay peacefully in the camper, staying warm by the heat of the furnace instead of the heat from the fire. We are all sad to see this very relaxing and fun trip come to an end but with the looming cold front and rain showers expected to arrive tomorrow, we want to get an early start to our trek back home. Tonight is also Rane’s first night sleeping with her new forever...
Read MoreWe started transitioning Rane by having her spend the afternoon with her new forever family today. She was a bit already at first while walking with them on her leash but once I picked her so so they could hold her, she relaxed and enjoyed herself. The plan is to have her back in our camper for tonight but then back with them for the entire day tomorrow, and hopefully the entire night too! So far so...
Read MoreSocialization is extremely important when it comes to a toy, companion breed. There is nothing worse than a 5 pound dog with a Napoleon complex! We are using this camping trip as a way to provide some socialization to two of our unique cases. Dude barks at anything and everything. A bag floating in the wind to the huge golden Labrador that is in the campsite two down from ours. While exploring the Rodman Dam this morning, of course, he had to be attached to his favorite human! All went very well on our adventure until a young man and his Boxer came to the spillway to fish. Of course, Dude the Chihuahua bark to get the attention of a dog 10 times larger than him! Dude...
Read MoreHappy Thanksgiving to all our family and friends – Human and Canine like! We have to many things to be thankful for and spending such a wonderful holiday with those we love makes it that much better. We have ALL finished up our fantastic turkey dinners (Yes, the Chihuahuas had their own home cooked Thanksgiving meal too) and based on this photo, can you tell what we are all doing? Lounging, napping and watching the Lions vs the Packers...
Read MoreThe prepping for a camping trip is totally sensed by our dogs. They LOVE Camping! Every time we open up the door out to the garage with an arm load of gear, they pace with anticipation. The sound of the Velcro on their harnesses is what really sends them into a tizzy but that won’t be for a couple days. After a full day of prepping, I have retired at my computer for the evening to do some work on the website. I guess I have been sitting in my seat for a while because when I stepped away to change loads of laundry, I came back to both Cosmo and Rane, laying cozily in my spot. All that pacing must have pooped them...
Read MoreAfter much thought and nine months of socialization resulting in amazing progress, we have decided it is time to work on placing Rane in a home where she can live as a princess – What she truly deserves. Tending to a litter of puppies changes every female we have ever bred. They “grow up” and build a sense of confidence. Even though Rane’s litter was far from drama free and we did loose her puppy at five weeks, she was able to nurture The Burrito as well as Colada’s puppies, seeing her through the full two months of raising and weaning offspring. Her self confidence has blossomed and she is at the perfect stage to transition into a new...
Read MoreGinny and all of the pups were fast asleep in the puppy pen when our family dove into this weekend’s house project – Steam cleaning the carpet and furniture. This of course began with a methodical vacuuming, much longer than our normal daily runs. One by one, they all woke and then crawled into the crate – the furthest spot away from the loud noise. We did move the pen and all the pups for the second phase but in the meantime, this litter definitely received desensitization to the...
