Learn more about the Chihuahua breed and some of their fun quirks
I love Ginny so much and for so many reasons. One of which is because whelping with her is such a breeze! She knows the routine and is so laid back about the whole thing. Over the last few days, she has totally POPPED and I am sure we have more than three in there. Carrying that extra load must be exhausting! So much so that this afternoon, she begged to get let upstairs – the location of our guest bedroom/whelping suite. She nested and paced around the room for a bit – as if checking everything out to make sure it’s set up to her liking – and then she plopped onto the floor to rest. She napped up there for a few hours and then back down...
Read MoreGinny has reached day 58 of her pregnancy and it seems as though she has doubled in her wide-load load in the last week. I knew she was having a large litter. When I say large, I mean more than two. But looking at her stretch herself out today, it is quite apparent that we have at least four! The excitement of seeing the results of Ginny and Goody’s breeding is immense but now to know there will be 4+ to drool and watch grow up –...
Read MoreSo much on the list and all was accomplished – And then some even! It started with vaccines and health certificates for Colada’s puppies. Jilli and Hemingway are big enough for vaccines but we decided to hold off on Ixtapa until she gets a bit bigger. Other than her tiny size, she check out perfectly! We also brought Maui so that she too could get a health certificate so she can go home with Linda this weekend. Because she is older, her check consisted of a Heartworm test and a fecal exam, which both had negative results. The final task added to our vet visit was to get Jessa, Eve and Suri their rabies vaccines and checked for possible denials on our next...
Read MoreOur new furniture and it’s arrangement has given us all a totally new vantage point to my husband’s nightly dinner time ritual. Normally when he sits on the couch, our only view is from the backside of the dogs. Now, we see what my husband sees – this time from HIS back. And from this side, he looks like an amazing conductor to a magnificent orchestra. They all follow his hand like a bunch of cats to a laser pointer. Then they wait patiently until he is almost done, saving the last few morsels for them. They know the drill – They will each get their own...
Read MoreJust like clockwork, she enters the 6th week of her pregnancy and she pops! She cuddled up next to me last night, belly exposed, as if telling me “Feel um??” She’s such an awesome mommy to be!
Read MoreWatching the dogs pile up to nap in the sunspots from the back door made me stop and take note. We put the winter window treatments up back in November, anticipating the need to keep the cold out and the heat in. This of course also means that when they are up, the sunlight is limited. Clearly, those cold temps are not coming! Time for the Summer window treatments to be pulled out and then, all the dogs could have a...
Read MoreNot only is she determined to be with the puppies as much as possible (a sign of a very attentive and wonderful future mommy) but also to get to the coveted Eukanuba Puppy Food! She reaches in with her paws to pat at them, instigating play. They adore her and the attention that she gives. When they aren’t in the pen, she is the first to start games of chase and tug-o-war with toys. She is also very attentive to their potty needs and in showing them the way to how it’s done. Of course, the pups are still not onto her alternative motives when she reaches in with her paws to pat at the food dish. She really wants to get to that food. I suppose at one point they...
Read MoreThe sofa table behind my couch was claimed a very long time ago by Dude. Often times, he would lay on the table to have the best look-out spot. I am not sure if his age is keeping him from jumping up from the couch to the table or if the house’s youngest stud muffin has dethroned him, but the table has a new claimant. Can you see Huggie? It’s like a Where’s Waldo picture now isn’t it? Huggie has claimed the spot right beside the lamp but he kicked it up a notch. From that very spot he can peek into the kitchen, see the entire living room and – Thanks to his tiny size – Actually HIDE behind the...
Read MoreQuik, Ace and Dewey are my night time buds and are fully trained on who’s spot is who’s when it comes to our couches. I have my spot and they normally cuddle around my legs or around my shoulders. If I happen to get up from my spot, they will take over the “warm spot” until I return. They are so trained to this, that when I return, they will actually get up and wait for me to get situated and then cuddle back up. Tonight, I was away from my spot for a bit longer than normal. When I did return, THIS is how I found Quik, fast asleep. Clearly, he is beyond comfortable! Now can you tell me how I am suppose to disturb this...
