Dewey Loved Key West!
We all headed down to Key West today and I decided to bring my shadow, Dewey, along for the adventure. Spending time with me since we got here has been at a minimum so some alone time was just what he needed. Alone with me and the gazillion other tourists here for the holiday weekend. He enjoyed a bit of shopping for trinkets and such and then explored Duvall Street. I know there are many humans out there that have a story to share about the uber tiny Chihuahua they saw walking around Key West. We left this afternoon for our annual Thanksgiving camping trip and this one involved a very long drive. Eight hours to be exact. We drove down to Long Pine Key and arrived at Bahia Honda State Park with only two quick gas fill-up stops. Our dogs are totally used to long trips in the car but this was a huge test on Ginny’s boys. We laid a pee-pad in the back of the car next to a crate with the door open. Tomoka was AWESOME! The park itself, the fishing, the river view, the perfect weather and yes – Did I mention the river? We took the dogs out in pairs for the last potty walk before we drive home and for the last walk, I took the little boys out to take in the Indian River. We headed out to cool off with a dip in the ocean this afternoon and I thought I would take Dewey along for his first beach experience. Since is is my shadow, leaving him back at the campground would make things difficult – He whines when I am not within eye-shot. As usual, we are taking two vehicles on our camping trip this weekend. Since holiday traffic is a major anxiety issue for me when towing the camper, I opted to ride in the non-towing vehicle and brought Ace and Dewey along with me for the ride. Colada is still in heat and possibly throwing Baby into hers. Spending Memorial Day Weekend smack dab in the middle of a State Park is NOT a good idea! They would attract way too many unwanted guests and of course, keeping them separated from the boys in the camper is just not easy to do. Karen has offered to dog-sit the girls while we are gone and I drove out to drop them off this afternoon since we are heading out tomorrow morning. As with all trips out to see Dr. Mario, it’s an all day event. This time was unique because we were meeting Largo and Lady’s new forever families since it was a half way point for them. It all started with our hour and a half drive out to The Villages. The girls did fantastic on the ride and rocked it at their appointment. Dr. Mario gave them their second set of vaccines and gave them all a perfect bill of health. Tonight was the park’s Christmas light gold cart parade and display. Just as we did last year, we brought the doggy Christmas wardrobe but it was just too darn cold to keep them all warm during the parade. Since the Dew-man has been going though mommy withdrawals, I figured one dog would be much easier to warm with my own body heat – and this adorable Santa costume!
