The original plan was for our entire family, canine and human, to head out for a short weekend camping getaway. Let’s just say that Ginny’s Aunt Flow stuck around this visit a bit longer than we anticipated. She is still a tad enticing to the boys and taking her to a campground is not a very smart move. Needless to say, I am staying home and keeping several of the dogs with me so our son can have a great birthday weekend. Baby, Dude, Cosmo and Buddy are packed up and ready to head out for their weekend adventure. The rest are staying here with me. I see a lot of playing, bonding and training for me and the dogs and for me alone, record keeping updates and...
Read MoreAnyone that knows me and my sweet Dewey is aware of the special connection that we have. He is my shadow and also who I call “my favorite neck pillow”. If I am sitting on the couch, he is struggled in nicely behind my neck. The temperatures have been up and down lately so the sunlight has been sought regularly. Today I found Baby, Colada and Dewey piled up in the warmth of the sun and I couldn’t help but notice that Dewey opted to use another’s neck – or back – to prop himself up on. When you see an...
Read MoreHappy Thanksgiving to all our family and friends – Human and Canine like! We have to many things to be thankful for and spending such a wonderful holiday with those we love makes it that much better. We have ALL finished up our fantastic turkey dinners (Yes, the Chihuahuas had their own home cooked Thanksgiving meal too) and based on this photo, can you tell what we are all doing? Lounging, napping and watching the Lions vs the Packers...
Read MoreBaby and Cosmo are two of the oldest Chihuahuas in our little pack and now, both snipped. This makes them aunts and uncles to all of our puppies. When that title is bestowed, that means their job is to help with socialization and to teach the pups to play. Currently, we have many different age levels scampering around the living room – From obnoxious teenagers to adorable toddlers. For us humans it can be exhausting. I cannot imagine what it’s like for the dogs. Well – Today’s play session gave me a glimpse of what it must be like. Cosmo and Baby jumped up onto the back of the couch and peeked their heads down to WATCH and not partake. Their...
Read MorePart of several of our Chihuahua’s potty habits include an ending back leg kick. It’s actually more of a kick stretch, but either way it’s a unique trait. Buddy clearly passed it down to his son Ace, as shown here in this photo. But it is not just a male trait! Rane (yes, Buddy’s daughter) as well as our sweet Baby does the same thing. Since I do see a genetic pattern, I look forward to seeing if Buddy’s grandpuppies are back leg kick stretchers...
Read MoreSince Baby became part of our family, she has displayed her unique habits for the world to see. Many of which I have documented on this very website! We have attributed Baby’s excessive need to hump all of the other dogs in our home to her hormones and of course, dominant nature. We all assumed that once she was spayed, we would see a decline in this habit, allowing her impatiently waiting successor, Chica to take reign. Based on what we saw today, clearly this is not the case! Pregnancy hormones are a flutter around here and this is obviously what pulled Baby out of her recovery bed and right into humping her the bed. The “back” to the doggy bed...
Read MoreWe are back to normal life in regards to the heats and all of the doors are open – Free Reign For All! With that being said, I couldn’t help but notice that the four girls we are watching – All for individual reasons – Balled up and cuddling with each other in the doggy bed that usually is home to the “in heat” females. Since they are kept in the kitchen, away from the horny boys, our girls normally nap in this bed to soak up the sun and enjoy the warmth. Today, Ginny, Rane, Colada and Baby napped in sisterhood. Ginny is now officially out of her season and now we will watch for signs of pregnancy . I will palpate her in about 12 days...
Read MoreBuddy and Baby are on the road to recovery so I thought I would share a bit on their progress. Buddy is up and and back to himself – So much so that he is still marking. Marking we can deal with as we have been for a while. It’s the attempting to clean his sutures that we had to step in to put a stop. The trusty belly bands he uses at night were carefully wrapped around his waist to keep him from licking. Baby is still one sore puppy! She finally ate her first full bowl of food yesterday. Of course, we had to entice her with a warmed up bowl of moist food to get her to walk across the room. The majority of her day is spent napping and resting, which she...
Read MoreBuddy and Baby have been napping on my lap for hours. Why you ask? Because today was the day for them to altered – Yes! In addition to puppy vaccines being secheuded today, we had a spay and neuter on the books. Since our drive out to see Dr. Mario is a long one, we try to take advantage of the trip by adding extra elements into our normal appointments. It’s time for the puppies to receive their next set of puppy vaccines and checkups. Since we have been trying to squeeze Baby’s spay into the mix for over a year, I nailed it down for this trip. Since she will be out for the count, I asked that we have her teeth cleaned too – ALL something Baby...
