The original plan was for our entire family, canine and human, to head out for a short weekend camping getaway. Let’s just say that Ginny’s Aunt Flow stuck around this visit a bit longer than we anticipated. She is still a tad enticing to the boys and taking her to a campground is not a very smart move. Baby and Cosmo are two of the oldest Chihuahuas in our little pack and now, both snipped. This makes them aunts and uncles to all of our puppies. When that title is bestowed, that means their job is to help with socialization and to teach the pups to play. Part of several of our Chihuahua’s potty habits include an ending back leg kick. It’s actually more of a kick stretch, but either way it’s a unique trait. Buddy clearly passed it down to his son Ace, as shown here in this photo. But it is not just a male trait! Rane (yes, Buddy’s daughter) as well as our sweet Baby does the same thing. Since Baby became part of our family, she has displayed her unique habits for the world to see. Many of which I have documented on this very website! We have attributed Baby’s excessive need to hump all of the other dogs in our home to her hormones and of course, dominant nature. We all assumed that once she was spayed, we would see a decline in this habit, allowing her impatiently waiting successor, Chica to take reign. Based on what we saw today, clearly this is not the case! We are back to normal life in regards to the heats and all of the doors are open – Free Reign For All! With that being said, I couldn’t help but notice that the four girls we are watching – All for individual reasons – Balled up and cuddling with each other in the doggy bed that usually is home to the “in heat” females. Since they are kept in the kitchen, away from the horny boys, our girls normally nap in this bed to soak up the sun and enjoy the warmth. Today, Ginny, Rane, Colada and Baby napped in sisterhood. Ginny is now officially out of her season and now we will watch for signs of pregnancy . I will palpate her in about 12 days...

Buddy and Baby are on the road to recovery so I thought I would share a bit on their progress. Buddy is up and and back to himself – So much so that he is still marking. Marking we can deal with as we have been for a while. It’s the attempting to clean his sutures that we had to step in to put a stop. The trusty belly bands he uses at night were carefully wrapped around his waist to keep him from licking. Baby is still one sore puppy! She finally ate her first full bowl of food yesterday. Buddy and Baby have been napping on my lap for hours. Why you ask? Because today was the day for them to altered – Yes! In addition to puppy vaccines being secheuded today, we had a spay and neuter on the books. Since our drive out to see Dr. Mario is a long one, we try to take advantage of the trip by adding extra elements into our normal appointments. It’s time for the puppies to receive their next set of puppy vaccines and checkups. Since we have been trying to squeeze Baby’s spay into the mix for over a year, I nailed it down for this trip.
