Both Quik and Maui are long coat Chihuahuas. Apparently, they inherited their mom’s slow coat growth gene because I am not seeing the lush length I like. It’s coming in – They have the fringe on their ears on on their back ends. Quik’s coat is actually a bit longer than his sister’s. I am going to assume they will be long and luxurious in the two year range. Until then, we wait!...
Read MoreI cannot tell you how many times I have told our new puppy families about how truly “ugly” long coat Chihuahua puppies get around the 15 week mark. The best analogy is our own 5th grade school picture – The one where the face is greasy and zitty and the hair is just plain wonky. Long coat pups loose their adorable fluffy puppy fuzz and their silkier, adult coats begins to peek through. Their legs look too long, their eyes haven’t popped and the are simply – Gawky! Gator is currently all that and then some. His father Ace did the exact same thing. Take a look at his 8 week photo and the at his 16 week photo. The untrained eye might even...
Read MoreGinny’s puppies are finally at the age where they can have visitors and being one day shy of 7 weeks, tonight was their first big socialization. As the leader to my daughter’s tweenage Girl Scout troop, our meetings are a lot less regular than I would like. Between sports practice, school events and other social calendar items, our meetings are rather random. The fact that we had one scheduled for tonight was a gift and I totally took advantage of it. That last 20 minutes turned into new hands, voices, smells and sounds from our troop....
Read MoreThe next required step in our goal to produce our own, unique line, is introducing a new male into our program. Sommer so graciously agreed to let us give her amazing Flash a shot at Ginny and wouldn’t you know it, with in 10 minutes of meeting, Flash took take of business! He was a man on a mission and she was a woman wanting it bad! It didn’t matter that they met in a parking lot and consummated their new relationship in the back seat of my car with it being 115 degrees outside. (Yes, the A/C was a blasting in their private suite) Thank you so much Sommer for letting us use Flash – If all goes as planned, we should have one amazingly awesome litter...
Read More…and right on time! Ginny is our most consistent female when it comes to her heat cycle and she doesn’t get thrown into heat when the other girl’s cycles are in motion. She throws others, but on her own, she is on her own. We will be breeding her this go around and she will produce our one and only long coat litter of the year. Since she is the matriarch of the line we are producing, I have decided to expand it by introducing an outside male with this litter. More details to come in the next couple weeks, but if all goes as planned, we will have a stunning litter of puppies! I am SO...
