Another All Day Adventure

So much on the list and all was accomplished – And then some even! It started with vaccines and health certificates for Colada’s puppies. Jilli and Hemingway are big enough for vaccines but we decided to hold off on Ixtapa until she gets a bit bigger. Other than her tiny size, she check out perfectly! We also brought Maui so that she too could get a health certificate so she can go home with Linda this weekend. Because she is older, her check consisted of a Heartworm test and a fecal exam, which both had negative results. The final task added to our vet visit was to get Jessa, Eve and Suri their rabies vaccines and checked for possible denials on our next...

They Did So Good!

They Did So Good!

With both Sugar and Huggie closing in on the one year mark, they both had some retained puppy teeth that we’re not working their way out on their own. Dog showing is somewhat of a beauty pageant. A retained puppy tooth could make or break a tight decision for a judge. Retained teeth can also hinder a youngster’s bite as they finish growing. Either way, pulling a couple teeth was an easy fix. This afternoon, Dr. Mario was able to remove the teeth, lickity split. Sugar had five pulled while Huggie only had one. Ace came along for a much needed nail clipping (he is getting rather persnickety the older he gets) and the Fluff Ball graduated in his socialization...

Healing Up Nicely

Since I have been sharing updates, I thought I should also add an update on Dewey and his surgery. He is doing fabulous! All but one dissolvable stitch is still intact, no irritation or issues. He bounced back on the second day and has been his happy go lucky self ever since. I realize watching him constantly will not allow me to see the weight gain but even the scale is bringing me to the same conclusion. Not a single 1/2 once gain yet. Maybe give it another month? Buddy gained his weight around the two month post surgery date. Not giving up on the Dewmeister...

What An Exciting Day

Another day in Lady Lake – Another set of vaccines for our tweenagers – Another eval day on the progress of said tweenagers and another passenger in the backseat on the ride home. Now, here are the deets! We had an appointment set up for Maui and Quik to get their rabies vaccines today. Since the drive is so long, we also scheduled another visit with Sandy at Serenity’s Chihuahuas. As the perfect mentor to help me get into the show ring, another check on the growth of Quik was planned. Until a pup reaches 8 months old – at a minimum – they go through a lot of changes. Since Quik is my first bred-by proposition, watching and evaluating his...

Anxiety Doesn’t Fully Explain It

Anxiety Doesn’t Fully Explain It

For the last year now, we have been under the assumption that Dewey’s anorexic frame was a possible liver shunt. Because Doc was unable to get complete results when he did the blood work to test for it. Blood drawn on and empty stomach and then again after he had eaten was the plan. His anxiety kept him for eating away from home, leaving us with incomplete results that did point into the direction of a liver shut. But his skinny look was the only symptom that he showed. We always had extreme anxiety as the more logical answer. But the fear of putting him under intravenously has been high, either way. Knowing a liver shunt was the key player, Dewey only has a 70% of...
