Ace has been the sire to the majority of our litters lately but now that Quik is of age and blue is as ripe as they get, Ace got to take a back seat today. You guessed it! Quik is officially a man! He handled it all like a champ. This will be Blue’s last litter – We are very excited to see what our handsome and social Quik can bring to the...
Read MoreI headed out to pick Ginny up from Sandy’s today and I am proud to announce, she was a fantastic girl during her stay. Her laid back temperament was definitely witnessed but so was her princess status! Around here, she has the tendency to show her spoiled ways when things aren’t to her liking. Specifically when it comes to the weather! When it happens to be raining or if the temps drops below 60, she dare not step out past the deck off the back of our house during potty breaks. The thought of stepping into mud, no matter what the temperature, is simply beneath her! With the scattered storms we have had during the last few days, this princess side was...
Read MoreMy first guess was right! Colada begged to go upstairs to the whelping suite around 8:30 pm tonight. All I could do was hope and pray she cooked um long enough. In addition to her non-textbook whelpings, she also has Stage Two habit that I really don’t know if it is more nerve-wracking on her or me. She goes into this major panic mode where she begs to be in my bedroom. Not just in my bedroom but in my BED! The last time, she started to pushed a puppy out on the floor in front of the door so tonight I was prepared for her nonstop door pacing and lined the area with pads and towels. She must have gotten the hint because she actually hopped back into the whelping...
Read MoreToday is Colada’s day 58 meaning she can go into labor any time starting today with a viable litter. Puppies born before day 58 of the pregnancy will not survive. And when it comes to Colada, getting her closer to her actual due date is preferred. In the past, we have had what I would call “not quite finished cooking” puppies from her. Every litter has had an underdeveloped blob pup and then her last litter was what I refer to as “bird babies”. These are tiny, no ounce of fat, skinny mini pups that require extra attention and supplemental feelings to get them through the first couple weeks. Flirtini and Gateraid turned out beautiful...
Read MoreAfter learning so much from Dr. Hutch at the symposium and using a few of his pointers, we decided it was time for Colada and Ace to give it another go. Their last litter was so amazing, I am hoping for a repeat with more smooth coats. And since Ace queued us in on the fact that Colada is totally prime, before the ball started to drop, we plopped the two into the same room to see if we can say good bye to 2011 with a bang. Ohhhh yeah! Didn’t take Ace but a few minutes to get the job done. We will be looking for puppies at the end of...
Read MoreI snapped this photo several hours ago thinking I would be posting about how she is even BIGGER than the photo I posted ion Sunday but as I sat down at my laptop to start posting, I noticed Ginny nesting on the couch beside me and then the panting kicked in. I would say I am in for a very long night!
Read MoreMy daughter insists we do the “belly shot” with each of our girls when they are pregnant. Here is Rane’s shot for the scrapbooks and I am sure will will get another as we get closer to her due date. Rane’s is our least photogenic dog. Her ears go down the second she hears the click of the camera and her eyes instantly close to the flash (you know EVERY family has one for those, right?) This photo is a prime example of her less than graceful photo pose. Classic...
Read MoreAfter several months of successful socialization with our family and friends, the idea was to transition Rane into our pack. From that point we would make the final decision – include her in our program allowing us to continue to expand our line, or retire her into a pet home. Once she opened up and became much less afraid of every bump and boom, the idea to breed her to her exact temperament opposite. Her progress was so amazing, reaching the same level of playfulness, affection and loyalty that the rest of her littermates exhibit. With that, the next step was to see how she responded to a male dog outside of our kennel. Her response was positive enough to...
Read MoreThe next required step in our goal to produce our own, unique line, is introducing a new male into our program. Sommer so graciously agreed to let us give her amazing Flash a shot at Ginny and wouldn’t you know it, with in 10 minutes of meeting, Flash took take of business! He was a man on a mission and she was a woman wanting it bad! It didn’t matter that they met in a parking lot and consummated their new relationship in the back seat of my car with it being 115 degrees outside. (Yes, the A/C was a blasting in their private suite) Thank you so much Sommer for letting us use Flash – If all goes as planned, we should have one amazingly awesome litter...
