She Had 5 In There!!!

Can you believe it? I figured four – but nope! FIVE!!! It started at 10:30 this morning with her begging to be back upstairs. She worked on moving them down until around 3:30 pm, when the pushing commenced. Ya gotta love Ginny! Only an hours worth of pushing and the first pup was here! A black spotted on white boy (with possible tan points) arrived with his brother not far behind. 16 minutes later, his sabled fawn spotted on white brother was born – Both in the 4.5 ounce range and anxiously nursing from the get-go. They were actually nursing when the first female was born. Our 4 1/4 ounce solid white sweetie arrived at 5:07 pm and boy, she’s a...

We Lost Her

No supplemental feedings or extra care was going to prevent the inevitable. So, so sad to announce that was lost our spotted sweetie this afternoon. I know what help we did give her was simply prolonging what was meant to be. From the second she took her first breath, which was not a strong one, I expected this outcome. She simply was not developed enough nor strong enough. Poor...

All Before The Clock Struck 12

My first guess was right! Colada begged to go upstairs to the whelping suite around 8:30 pm tonight. All I could do was hope and pray she cooked um long enough. In addition to her non-textbook whelpings, she also has Stage Two habit that I really don’t know if it is more nerve-wracking on her or me. She goes into this major panic mode where she begs to be in my bedroom. Not just in my bedroom but in my BED! The last time, she started to pushed a puppy out on the floor in front of the door so tonight I was prepared for her nonstop door pacing and lined the area with pads and towels. She must have gotten the hint because she actually hopped back into the whelping...

Settled In Nicely

After 30 hours since arriving, Ginny’s babies are doing fabulous! Each had a nice little weight gain over night and are loosing that bright red, just born tone. Their coat’s are dry and you can really see just how uniquely marked each puppy is. Man oh Man! I have never seen such a fun marked litter. From solids, to tri’s to spots – and LOTS of spots! This is the first litter Ginny has had to nurse in the new “bin cave” we have been using as of late. It does keep the heat more retained but our long, thick coated Ginny is retaining the heat too. Between her’s and the body heat from five puppies as well as a heating pad set on even...

It Finally Happened

And I am not just talking about Ginny finally popping! Ginny’s last litter threw me a curve ball in the stage one department. In litters prior, her panting and nesting began within an hour of the first puppy arriving. Last litter, it started 12 hours before and ran straight through until the first pup arrived. No panting or nesting during. So when she started her panting and nesting last night, I wasn’t sure exactly where to take her. The whelping box in the guest bedroom or into my bed, where all the girls usually beg to start the stage one of their whelpings. We did a little bit of both this time. Started in my bed with her waking me at 3:45 am by pawing at...
